The first Spike Jones record I heard was an old 78rpm of my fathers with "I dream of Brownie with the light blue Jeans" on one side and "Hawaiian War Chant" on the other. I must have been 9 at the time and was immediately hooked. Spike and his band produced a magnificent array of out and out Jazz and contemporary Swing numbers to nutty novelty tunes. From eerily poignant but histerically sneering and ridiculing songs about Hitler and the Nazis and the Japanese, during WW2 to beautifully executed versions of popular tunes of the day. Some of the lyrics are close to the bone by modern standards but the tightness and sheer musicianship leave you breathless.

Doing a parody of "Achy Breaky Heart" is like trying to do a parody of the "National Enquirer," since the song was a joke in the first place. This is the very first album by top US musical humorist Weird Al and like all his albums, contains enough gems that withstand repeated listens to make it worth a purchase. ANOTHER ONE RIDES THE BUS and MR FRUMP IN THE IRON LUNG are outstanding and the track "GOTTA BOOGIE" with it's disco beat and punchline of "Gotta boogie on my finger and I can't flick it off" will have you in stitches. This album represents the start of something great!

This is just pure genius. The lyrics have that certain wit that had me rolling for ages. But where as most comedy bands rely just on their lyrics, Green Jelly also delivers amazing riffs and wicked drum lines. The cd is also full of different styles of music from hard metal to dance and back again, all as good as the last. Buy this album.

bad hair day has some of the best songs weird al has to offer his lyrics are incredibly funny and witty and with some great songs like the alternative polka and i remember Larry it is easily up there with his best work. however some of these songs are not for everyone (hence the 4 star rating. so if your a fan of weird al or just like to listen to a great polka song then this is a must.
