This is a compilation of the pieces recorded by one of the best UK instrumental groups of the early 60's. I confess that I usually skip the somewhat untypical couple of tracks in which the group backs a singer. However, the reworkings of traditional tunes (eg Miller Like Wow) from their EP are good fun, albeit somewhat quirky as rock instrumentals go. Nonetheless, the main fare is the comprehensive collection of tracks from the Flee-Rekkers' 45's (ranging from the vigorous Green Jeans through to the very polished Fireball): if you liked such groups as the Shadows and Johnny and the Hurricanes, I think you'd enjoy these tracks too. I saw the group live at the Hammersmith Palais and they certainly gave a great performance: for me, the CD is ... Read More:

I have most of the CDs in the Ultra Lounge series now. This was the first that I bought and it remains by far the best. (Second best is TVTown). If you - like me - think that the Organ is not only the quintessential medium of (ch)easy listening, but also the king of all instruments, you will find much to enjoy here. I've heard a whole lot of organ records (bought second-hand in the 1980s), and dozens of reissue CDs put out for the 'lounge' bandwagon of the mid-to-late 90s, but this one is quite outstanding.
Maybe I'm just getting older, but it's not all kitsch. The extraordinary 'Sir Julian' makes two appearances, offering fresh and unclichéd takes on some familiar standards, and there are many other highlights, such as 'The Third ... Read More:

The movie is sweet and so is the soundtrack.
Hearing the 'witch doctor' track always brings a smile to my face.
All in all this CD is like Marmite...you'll either love it or loathe it : )

This is a truly odd CD. Napoleon XIV drifts from childhood at 43 to near psychosis, with perhaps the sanest track on the entire album being a hymn to the redemptive qualities of Iowa pot ("I owe a lot/To Iowa pot/And I don't mean Iowa corn"). We are taken to places in which the nuts hunt the squirrels, and in which the girl who pre-empted the psychosis from which most of the tracks seem to derive pops up repeatedly, in various forms:on one, she is a photograph on the wall - unfortunately, being as how she's gone, the photo transmorgrifies into a window, and the song peters out in a shower of broken glass and the thud of a falling body. In the single "They're coming to take me away", and its sequel, "They're coming to get ... Read More:

I bought this because the Toy Dolls seem to be one of those bands who seem to get namechecked by a lot of my favourite groups (the Wildhearts and Terrorvision to name but two) and it's brilliant! This round-up sees Olga and his crew doing a cracking job re-interpreting the most unlikely of groups from Ricky Martin through Elvis, the Small Faces and the Proclaimers to Jason Donovan. It sounds completely mad and there's no denying it is but really if this album doesn't put a smile on your face then you're probably dead. Or a Coldplay fan which is arguably worse. Buy it.
