released in 2001,XX is a compilation of the bands first three albums that are nigh on impossible to get so this is a greatest hits of such but also represents mushroomheads first international release.

When I first heard this album via the Amazon snippets, I thought "not bad". The album cover gave the impression that this was some sort of death metal band and so I was at first hesitant. Then some time later I downloaded 'Remedy'. Pretty good, I thought. Let's buy the album. So that I did. That decision was the best one I have ever made as this is my favourite album of all time, bar none. So to be top of a 200+ rock album pile means that this is indeed something special.

As is usually the case, the dark times of the lead-singer/songwriter Scooter Ward has produced an album full of tracks with emotion and deep-felt feeling. There is not one filler on the album. The mix of songs as they flow from one to the next is amongst the best ... Read More:

I first bought this album when it came out in 2000. Since then it has easily been my favourite album, despite my musical tastes changing constantly since then. Words can't describe how near perfection this album is. The lyrics are not what I pay attention to, but I do like them. Being a guitarist, Jerry Horton's musical prowess on this album just made me awestruck when I first heard it. He doesn't show off with technical skill, but all of the music blends together perfectly and his riffing is the work of genius.

I might be the only one who thinks that way, but there's nothing I like more than to play along with the entire album start to finish.

I hadn't heard of these guys until Alive first hit the radio. While I really like that track, it was Youth Of the Nation which really hooked me, a sensitive, powerful song which will be inspiration to Christians and non-Christians alike, with an honest look at the problems young people face. It was that which tempted me to buy the CD. Although nothing quite matches YOTN, the overall quality is high.

The comment I really can't understand is that the album is repetitive. While many tracks are rooted in hard rock with a touch of rap, there are also slower moodier numbers and a touch of reggae, with guest performers on several tracks. It is no where near what taproot are about. This album is a great album and if you like 'gift' you will love this album too, but in comparisson to 'gift' and also their latest 'blue sky research' it is a little off the mark.
Still, greta tunes like 'poem' and 'mine' make this an album worth owning. Crushing guitar riffs and melodic singing, this is truely a transition in styles for taproot, and therfore the songs are not as fluid as those on their other albums. If this was their debut it would be great, but we know what they are capable of! Good job they delivered with 'Blue sky research'.
Support this band so buy this CD!

this band are so nu metal that it almost hurts.
but the thing is that they were always a little bit better than the rest purely because they didnt do the whole whinney ive been abused when i was younger rubbish.
the songs are a little bit more universal and they have some nice upbeat bouncy songs.
they are a little more hip hop influenced than some of the other nu metal pack aswell. this is aided by having a vocalist who is exceptionally versatile. the boy can rap shout and growl with the best of them and his talents lend themselves perfectly to the noise that (hed)pe choose to make.
if you dont like nu metal this lot arent gonna convince you but if you are new to the genre you do alot worse than give this debut a spin.

Smells Like Children

I've brought alot of his other CD's and were really good but this one isn't as good as his other stuff. Alot of the tracks are remixes of good Portrait songs and rip them off. Sympathy for The Parents is a remix of an interview aswell. You can find it on youtube under Marilyn Manson on Phil something. I do like the remixes of Dope Hat and the hidden 16th track is alright. Also the covers are amazing. Not just Sweet Dreams which is ok but I put a Spell on You grows on you like Cryptochid on Antichrist Superstar. It is quite creepy and dark. My favourite track on there is definetly Rock `N` Roll Nigger which is loud and fast and gets me really hyper and would make a good classic. It is a little short though. Being a massive fan of everything Faith No More I bought this the moment it hit the shelves. The album is a monster, following the life of perhaps one of the most versatile (and volatile) bands we are ever likely to see and shows FNM's refusal to be placed into any single genre container. From the hoarse screamings of 'Digging The Grave' to a rendition of 'Easy' that even impressed Lionel Richie with its elegance, this album grabs you from the start and refuses to let you go until it's over.

Anyone with a few quid to spare and want to know what they were about should go for this one (and then buy all the rest).

'Beneath, Between, Beyond' is just another example of what they can achieve by mixing industrial metal with hard-core rock. Slipknot [VINYL]

I am not a fan of "Nu-Metal/Screamo", in fact, I despise all these "emo/scene kidd" bands kicking around at the moment. Most guys will take a first listen to a "Slipknot" song, and without thinking straight, will rate it as "screamo" (that meaning they fit into all this "Emo" stuff). Slipknot never have, and never will, fit into this category.

Yes, Slipknot ARE heavy. And yes, they are not going to everybody's cup of tea, I can dig that. What I don't dig is people fitting them into all this "Emo" image.
