Once you start listening to these songs you can't stop singing them. My little daughter and I dance and sing along to them and her face brightens up every time she starts to here one of them. It's really good company in the car too and makes our journeys cheerful and fun. The small children that sing with Ella Jenkins(who I'd never heard of before buying this C.D.), apart from being really sweet, are an irresistible invitation to join in with the singing for both adults and children alike and I can't help but smile when I hear them. The "Ten Green Bottles" version that has the children doing simple sums is new to me and I like it even if this subtracting makes it slower than I was used to. I use "Many Pretty Trees" to teach ... Release Date July 09, 1991
How do you make an uplifting opera out of a group of exhausted, demoralised, malnourished prisoners stuck in the Nineteenth Century equivalent of a Stalinist Gulag? Let Janacek show you how.
This is a piece where practically nothing happens. A new prisoner arrives, there's a bit of aimless brutality, the prisoners put on a ramshackle show, a caged eagle is given its (symbolic) freedom and...er...that's about it. The most interesting action happens in a series of long narratives, life-stories told by prisoners to while away the endless time spent in this hellhole.
Yet this is throughout edge-of-the-seat stuff. Janacek, in the last opera of his Indian Summer, uniquely captures that 'spark of humanity' to be found in even ... Read More:

I came across this selection of nursery rhymes quite by chance, having already tried a few of the Kootie Bear Collection which I find just too saccharine and corny, and this since become a firm favourite with our baby and the rest of the family, too. Raggedy Ann and Andy have produced a brilliant selection of old favourites, and every song is sung in a beautiful way, and the accompaniment and speed of delivery is very good, too (not too fast, like some compilations, and not to sentimental, either). Their style could be defined as "retro" with more than a touch of drama - it sounds almost like they made the recording in the 1940s, which for me works brilliantly when combined with nursery rhymes. Let's face it - most nursery rhymes have been around ... Read More:
