On her second Album Ursula has I think, upped the musical side of her game, the collaborations this time around are slightly more diverse, bringing into the fold the likes of King Britt and one half of the classic MAW - Louie Vega.
The opening track "Soon" is pure wonderment, close your eyes as the intro builds up and washes over you, makes me think of sitting in a smokey Jazz lounge in Barcelona/Paris...the rest follow on in a relentless barrage of knowledge and wisdom..."Untitled Flow", "Time" (classic 4Hero) and "Q&A" being stand outs for me...(there is a great Remix of "Lonely can be sweet" on the Gilles Peterson Worldwide vol 1 album by the way..)
The rhymes and flow are still amazing and tight as ever, the message still coming ... Read More:

I can't believe my luck in finding this CD. Chomsky sticks the knife into Bill Clinton, shortly before Dubya's two terms. I personally think Chomsky is just another politician, and between the realpolitik of pleasing his followers, and his dogma, he has little time left to seek any realistic perspectives or present realistic solutions.
This CD is evidence of his part in the factionalisation of the left (which is why Bush kept power for so long). And I am always delighted to find evidence to support my prejudices.

Ferlinghetti continues the great tradition of American spoken poetry. The use of jazz as an accompaniment is fairly recent idea though Vachel Lindsay had a go decades past with his Daniel Jazz poem using 'Dixie' and 'Alexander's Ragtime Band'. The use of jazz on this recording seems a bit hit and miss to me. It certainly seems to have been recorded as background rather than an equal to Ferlinghetti's reading. I'm quite happy with this as I basically bought the CD to hear his reading of 'A Coney Island of the Mind' and I'm certainly not disappointed. His voice is now wonderfully mature and he easily slips into different accents and word pronunciations.
