I have listened to quite a few compilations such as this one but never really felt like exploring the world of classical music much further. This album opened my ears to the delights of classical music by including pieces that are recognisable by someone like me who knows little about classical music. For example, I did not know that the dramatic opening music in 2001 - A Space Odyssey was from Also Sprach Zarathustra by Strauss or that the background music in the British Airways TV commercial was the Flower Duet from the opera Lakme.
Since listening to this compilation, I have bought several classical music CDs and am enjoying them immensely. For example, I had actually seen Swan Lake and heard the music many years ago but never ... Read More:

Gosh, I remember this. It was a very timeous release in 1995, compiling a bunch of mostly indie guitar tunes right at the very height of britpop, and it is a pretty good britpop sampler. It has "Alright" by Supergrass, "Wake up Boo" by the Boo Radleys, and Edwyn Collins' "A Girl Like You", three of the most ubiquitous radio hits of the time. And "Whatever" by Oasis. Surprisingly however it does not have Pulp's "Common People" or anything by Sleeper.
There are britpop fellow travellers such as the Prodigy, Fluke and the Chemical Brothers, all of whom appeared on the soundtrack to the Playstation hit "Wipeout" and its sequel, and who were not indie guitar bands at all. There is ... Read More:

The thing to remember here is that in 1993 'dance' music was simply music to dance to. Even though many classics such as 'Ride On Time' by Black Box and 'Pump Up the Jam' by Technotronic are on here, so are a bizarre selection of disco-y ones, such as Chakra Khan and Sister Sledge. The old skool theme is also broken away from 2 Unlimited and The Shamen by artists like Kenny Thomas and American hip hop house like Kriss Kross, while others just don't seem to fit in ('Temptation' by Heaven 17?). At the time, this sort of compilation of techno, soul, disco and house would probably have been very popular, but today it just seems a little confusing as to where this compilation is trying to go.

As a beginner belly dancer and having no idea of the different Egyptian and Turkish musicians, I orginally bought this CD because of its title, and I can safely say it does come pretty close to it. There is a excellent variety of music from different artists which has enabled me to pick out the ones I really love and purchase their own albums. Music ranges from slow and sultry to hip shaking, excellent for practising different techniques. Would probably have liked a few more faster songs though and all music is instumental.

I had This album when I was a teenager and have bought it again, 100% good songs! not one song is not worth having on it.
Who ever compiled this album, well done! You are a god of music!

By definition, any compilation is going to be a mixed bag and there are always going to be some tracks that you like more than others. However, I have found more to listen to on these albums than any other compilation that I have bought. One of the reasons is because there is greater variety here than on most others. It has also caused me to appreciate artists that I had not come across before such as Sinead Lohan, and to go out and buy more music by that artist.

I regard this as the best series of sixties compilations yet released on CD. Even with 200 tracks between four volumes, it would have been easy to continue the series. On compilations like this, I particularly look for classic tracks by artists who only had one or two big hits. Of course, most of the major names are here although you won't find Elvis, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones here due to licensing restrictions
With no drop in quality from the first two volumes, this contains another outstanding selection of sixties classics although there was no track that particularly stood out for me this time.
My favorites here are Mrs Robinson (Simon and Garfunkel), California dreaming (Mamas and Papas), Walk right back (Everly brothers), ... Read More:
