Release Date September 01, 1995
Gosh, I remember this. It was a very timeous release in 1995, compiling a bunch of mostly indie guitar tunes right at the very height of britpop, and it is a pretty good britpop sampler. It has "Alright" by Supergrass, "Wake up Boo" by the Boo Radleys, and Edwyn Collins' "A Girl Like You", three of the most ubiquitous radio hits of the time. And "Whatever" by Oasis. Surprisingly however it does not have Pulp's "Common People" or anything by Sleeper.
There are britpop fellow travellers such as the Prodigy, Fluke and the Chemical Brothers, all of whom appeared on the soundtrack to the Playstation hit "Wipeout" and its sequel, and who were not indie guitar bands at all. There ... Read More:

The collection of tangos on this double CD is good but far from the loveliest or best or greatest as the title suggests. There are some highly unusual tracks on them such as Fuga Y Misterio played by 12 cellos and hence the 2 stars. I have played tracks from this compilation for my dance people and have not found a great deal of enthusiasm for them.
Release Date October 28, 1996
By definition, any compilation is going to be a mixed bag and there are always going to be some tracks that you like more than others. However, I have found more to listen to on these albums than any other compilation that I have bought. One of the reasons is because there is greater variety here than on most others. It has also caused me to appreciate artists that I had not come across before such as Sinead Lohan, and to go out and buy more music by that artist.

I regard this as the best series of sixties compilations yet released on CD. Even with 200 tracks between four volumes, it would have been easy to continue the series. On compilations like this, I particularly look for classic tracks by artists who only had one or two big hits. Of course, most of the major names are here although you won't find Elvis, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones here due to licensing restrictions
With no drop in quality from the first two volumes, this contains another outstanding selection of sixties classics although there was no track that particularly stood out for me this time.
My favorites here are Mrs Robinson (Simon and Garfunkel), California dreaming (Mamas and Papas), Walk right back (Everly brothers), ... Read More:

You really can't fault the selection of tracks here (with the possible exception of the Ritchie Family, which made me laugh out loud on hearing it for the first time here). Classics all, and not always the obvious ones.
But as someone who loved every second of these tracks when I first bought them on 7-inch vinyl, it was incredibly frustrating to find that the tracks overlap very slightly, so you lose those ecatatic moments at the start and finish of many of them.
The cue points at the start of each track are sloppy too, so you catch the end of the previous one even if you wanted to skip it.
And in order to squeeze 44 titles on, several tracks are faded out early.
If you're just a casual listener/dancer, ... Read More:

This album is for anyone who loved the music which was britpop, not just those whose who were only interested in the squabbling of the 'Big two', but those who enjoyed the music of the lesser bands forgotten, unfairly, by most. The likes of Menswear, Sleeper, Ash and Echobelly bring depth to an awesome album which brings a great melody of all bands of the time, pure unadulterated britpop!! The first CD has the big names such as Supergrass, Oasis, Blur and Radiohead with some of there best songs of that period. The 2nd CD is a little bit more obscure with bands such as terrorvision and Babylon Zoo, who with their one hit wonders bring some variety to the proceedings. Altogethor this is a great album to sit back to one evening and just let the music take ... Read More:

Folk music is, as they say, a very broad church. The one thing this collection does not do is to test the limits but, while fans of both traditional and contemporary folk may gasp in shock and horror at some of the tracks and artists listed, there is no denying that all of the songs are indeed folk.
Compiled in very rough chronological order, from the vast catalogue that EMI has in its vaults, it mainly acts as a history of popular or mainstream folk of the 1960s and 1970s, but with a few more up-to-date examples thrown in. From the fluffy 1960s TV-friendly Kingston Trio and Seekers, the 1970s electric folk/pop of Lindisfarne and Steeleye, the more earnest Bert Jansch and Clifford T Ward, and the more modern and eclectic Townes van Zandt and Sheila Chandra, ... This album is a great mix of love songs old and new. The cover is so adorable, that's 99% of the reason behind my purchase. Love it!
