I'll admit, im a 'fan' of NIN (I stayed up until 5:30 in the morning waiting for this album to arrive) and i must say, given the nature of ghosts and year zero i didnt really know what to expect, except the two tracks from the album i'd already heard
...I was extremely impressed.
I own just about every halo (including DVD's and singles) and this is by far up with my favourites.
Ill start off with its musical style: it starts off with a track much like one you would find on GHOSTS, haunting and dramatic, but its the way it bleeds into my favourite track of the album, 1.000.000, that gets me everytime, its with 1.000.000 that this album begins as a work of art. The music itself is very new sounding compared ... Read More:
Aimee, Aimee, Aimee. What can I say? I have been a longtime fan of Aimee Mann. At her best she is a writer of beautiful songs charting the ups and downs (often the downs!) of love and life. However, something seems to have gone wrong with the current album, I'm sad to say.
Unlike many, I was a big fan of The Forgotten Arm, Mann's previous record. Dismissed by most critics purely on the grounds of its `concept', it was a set of strong songs and at least a couple good enough to be ranked amongst Aimee's best. Unfortunately, the magic is somehow missing on Smilers. The songs are pretty enough; it's just that after a number of listens, they steadfastly refuse to stand out; not one has lodged itself in my brain (except maybe Borrowing ... Read More:

When I first heard James was reuniting, my heart was being tugged on in two directions. I would love to hear James again, but I was expecting a half hearted attempt at rekindling the magic that made James such a good band in the first place. "Hey Ma" proves my doubts wrong, and then some.
"Bubbles" begins the album with a song about new life, describing Tim Booth's joy as a father. This song is reminiscent of Laid era work - uplifting, but atmospheric. While Eno isn't here to produce this album, his presence is still felt.
But the sound quickly shifts to jam-based anthemic rock that James successfully mastered with "Gold Mother" and "Laid." "Hey Ma" might be described as an optimistic protest song. Tunefully, it's a classic. In ... Read More:

I love this album!
I bought this album for 'now you're gone' and it's probably the track i have listened to least, all tracks are so bouncy and just great.
Release Date January 28, 2008
but it is a really enjoyable album. Unashameably influenced by AC/DC, if you also like The Offspring and WASP (The band 'We Are Sex Perverts' and not the KKK) then you will like this. The main fault lies in that it sounds like a album of singles, and therefore does not quite gell. One tip - start the album at track 3 (which is the first single), and continue playing through 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,1 until you finish on track 2. The album just sounds better - trust me!

This album is amazing. It's not the white stripes so don't compare it to them, just listen and make up your own mind. A few years down the line this will be considered a classic album.

'The Red Album' is weezer's masterpiece so far. Don't let it fool you that the opener 'Troublemaker' is an archetype of the dynamic and melodic power rock known so well from earlier releases, 'cause what follows adds new and surprising dimensions to weezer's style. The second track 'The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations On A Shaker Hymn)' plays with the surprised but spoiled listener in its style variations based on the same rough yet harmonious theme and is, in my opinion, not only weezer's best composition ever, but no less than one of the most surprising, catchiest and simply... best rock songs released in years!
Yes, you read right: weezer goes from straight-forward melodic rock craftmanship to boasting out their musical talents in touching semi-epic progressive rock. From the ... Read More:

There really are not words enough to describe the sweep and grandeur of Leonard's 1988 masterpiece. Age cannot wither, nor custom stale its infinite variety. There are many common misperceptions of Mr.Cohen, but none more frustrating to a lifelong fan than that of suicidal, morbid folk-singer. My own personal vision is of the ultimate caberet crooner, the last-dance, last-chance, end-of-the-night performer, dispensing gems of wisdom sometimes with an urbane humour, but always with love and a song in his heart: a mixture of Aznavour, Brel, and Noel Coward, with a little Brecht thrown in for good measure. This album answers perfectly that call, most seductively and gorgeously in LC's reading of Lorca's 'Little Viennese Waltz' (here recast as TAKE THIS WALTZ): "There's a concert hall in Vienna/ Where your mouth ...
