This CD can change your day, your washing up, your chores and your mood into an all singing, all dancing feel good experience. It starts, no messing, straight in there, with Dancing Queen, surely one of the best dance floor fillers of all time. There's no dead wood on this album, all the old favourites are here: Chiquitita, Mamma Mia, Voulez Vous, Thank You For the Music and the beautifully written Winner Takes it All. I admire Benny and Bjorn so much as songwriters since not only do they produce perfect ageless pop songs (and there is such an art to it) but don't forget, their lyrics are written in their second language, not their first. The kooks' second album was always going to be extremely difficult. The task in hand was to prove the critics wrong, maybe do something a bit different so as not to be labelled 1-trick ponies, and most importantly to keep the massive fan base which they had built on the back of their debut 'inside in/inside out'. Whether they have achieved any of these is debatable.

The album starts out in promising fashion with the two guitars being used in `see the sun' infusing together to make a catchy, instantly lovable pop-rock track which forces you to come back for another listen. Is it me or has music lately been all the same R'n'B/Hip Hop/Dance remixes?

Anyway, I first heard Sarah's "Love Song" on Radio 1 and really liked it, and enjoyed her natural singing talent. I decided to view some of her other songs on YouTube and liked them all so for the first time in MANY months I bought an album...and haven't been disapointed.

As with any album some songs are stronger than others. Highlights for me are of course "Love Song" and "Bottle It Up" with "Gravity" and "One Sweet Love" being other highlights. However my favourite is certainly "Between the Lines"

Some songs are a little American for me but I can forgive that. Hope to see more good work from a clearly very talented young lady...

Having recently rediscovered Neil Diamond through his 12 Songs and Home Before Dark albums, I decided I wanted to replace a similar 'best of' album I bought years ago on vinyl. I searched all over Amazon, couldn't find anything well recommended so I bought Hot August Night. This was a mistake. The Greek concerts may have been something special but the recording is poor and the collection of songs not really what I was looking for. I then stumbled upon this Best Of in my local supermarket of all places. It is exactly what I wanted and exactly what you want if you're looking for a comprehensive collection of his early and so very well known hits. And at £2.98 it's such good value it would be almost rude not to buy it!

This album is fantastic. no song is bad. pendulum have changed direction and it works a treat. the drum n bass is still there but not as much, however the new rock in it is BRILLIANT. The vocals are decent, but its the riffs and the drums which make it. the drops and bass lines are tremendous, and the album is so full of energy. The best songs are:

Showdown - The best song on the album. Big drums in the background power the song and an immense bass line on top of it. a break in the middle, and in insane drop leads it back in. the guitar work is also amazing. 10/10


Propane Nightmares - 10/10. One of the best made by them. Strong drums and a quality bass line, with good vocals too. The ending makes the song though, a really powerful and slower ... Read More:

I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too

The warm and understated sound of her debut CD (3 years ago) is replaced with a fuller augmented bells and whistles rock band sound, which merely serves to make the music sound ordinary, and which causes Martha's distinctive vocal style to work too hard to rise above.

The reservations many had about Martha's songwriting on her first (although I thought it was pretty good) have been proved right here. Some songs are good, but none are as striking as Factory, TV Show, Who Was I Kidding or BMFA from the former.

I never review anything without at least 10 listens and sorry to say this CD has remained a chore to sit through. Martha needs to get back to basics, quit smoking, and concentrate her vocal technique on interpreting songs instead just rehashing her vocal ... Read More:

When I first heard 'She's So Lovely' I honestly thought I was going to scream. The fact that their pointless and repetative songs are played over and over again on the radio drives me crazy. Their singles, 'She's So Lovely', 'Heartbeat', 'Its Not About You' and 'Elvis Aint Dead' all sound so similar that when I hear them, I struggle to work out which one is which!

Perhaps someone can actually provide an example of where she is supposed to sound like Billie Holliday ...? She doesn't sound like any other singer I can think of offhand and she certainly doesn't adopt any of the usual vocal mannerisms used by singers wanting to sound 'soulful' (e.g. excessive melisma, too much ad-libbing, shouting, etc.). She is a proper singer who relies on a naturally rich tone and actually interpreting the song as opposed to just 'vocalising'. I'd say she is in the tradition of singers like Van Morrison and John Martyn (without particularly sounding like them) - singers with a love of jazz/blues/R&B who found their own way of interpreting the music and creating their own vocal style. At first play I skipped through the album..enjoyed Chasing Pavements, tolerated Heartbreaker, looked forward to the ending of the last track.

Put this back on today and was captivated..completely. Even after the seventh playthrough...why..I don't know..maybe a reassessment of expectations..whatever..this is Outstanding - just listen to the tunes and forget the hype.
