talking book this is a classic soul album i love it and play it quite regually its cool it features two known songs you are the sunshine of my life,superstition and lots of other good songs which aint recoginised so much radios have a habit of playing 2 or 3 songs by one artist all radio stations are guilty of it eg queen bohemian rhapsody,youre my best friend,dont stop me now and sometimes we will rock you but theres plenty of other fab songs by queen eg innuendo,these are the days of our lives,somebody to love and more i like a winters tale too off the made in heaven album fab!! but they do this with any artist play certain songs thats why i get bored by radio stations rather go and put my own cds on!! if i listen too radio its radio2 mark ... Much has been written about the original release and I share the view that it truly is one of the great albums; transcending both time and genre.
What the reviews here fail to mention are the treasures to be found within the live recording from The Kennedy Center. Close listening to this concert reveals moments of utter beauty. The slowed moments referred to by other reviewers enhance the depth of feeling and this can be felt too in the reactions of the audience who respond rapturously to Gaye's heartfelt improvisations, backed perfectly by some wonderful playing by the supporting musicians.The recording may indeed lack the polish of the studio release but its extremes of intensity and subtlety in performance showcase a true genius at the height of his ... Ignore all the reviews that have been given above! Trust me! This album rocks- people just trash anything that isn't like the bodyguard soundtrack..and thats just true! This album is quality RnB/Pop songs. If you like that genre of music then you will like this album!

The first track 'Whatchulookinat'- I love this song and I like the lyrics to it as well- It's sort of a Michael Jackson/Mary J Blige song..I'm glad she has finally blasted back at the Media for trashing her and her marriage to Bobby Brown. Great tune!

Hello

Simply Red changed after the Stars album, not rapidly but they did change. Life is an album with so many different music genres, bit of R+B bit of Soul bit of Pop Bit Of Rock, And alot of Good Reggae.

You CANNOT class Simply Red into a genre its impossible, you cannot label them one genre.

Right back to Life, Life had to be a good album to follow Stars and it was. Pure class.

My favourite song is Hillside Avenue you can’t deny how good that song is. Simply Red only has one number 1 in this country. Just goes to show you, how rubbish the music industry is at this time.

It’s so easy to listen to, you can sort of relate to each song. Mick is clearly not just righting perky 3 minute love songs.

I have heard of Lionel Richie and have heard a couple of his tracks...but when i went on holiday this year with my fella's parents they put this CD on non-stop and it is absolutley brilliant...each time i hear it now it reminds me of being on holiday!!

Slicker Than Your Average

What an amazing voice, what great control, range, power and all that, yet his songs are generally rubbish!! Even Lamar is turning out better stuff, and his abilities are well below Mr David's.

I don't want to sound really unfair, but either something's truly against this guy, or he just needs to find better writers, he's such a wasted talent and I hope he finds better direction soon!! Maybe some collaborations...?

The Essential Shalamar

Good quality compilation, at a very good price too. The earlier hits come in their 12 inch form, and the later hits are the original album versions. The sleeve notes describe 'Dead Giveaway' as cheese, which seems a trifle unfair to me, as it was one of their biggest hits and not often featured on compilations.

Their is one major flaw with the CD and it loses a star (possibly 2), as 'There It Is' which I always remember fondly from the early 80s is missing. There's room on the CD so why not include it?

So overall a very good compilation, but missing one of their best tracks.

All in all, the music's on this lp is pure shallowness,except for some cool moments like the fun "heartbreaker",the beautiful enough "can't take that away",the clever "crybaby" and...well that's about it."After tonight" is supremely boring,just like "bliss" and "petals"."Ex girlfriend" sounds good at first but reveals itself as a filler after some time.And please mariah,do not try to record another tune like "did i do that":it's incredibly horrible!Now the question is:Will you buy a full length album that contains only three interesting cuts?

All Saints

What a pity on some of the reviews I have read here. I don't know about they refuse toi hear All Saints, or attacking them because of the rivality with the SPICE GIRLS. They did completely different types of music. I love the SPICE but they did POP MUSIC. All Saints are great too, but it's a different style.

This is a very good album. "Never ever" has become for me in ONE of favourite soul songs ever! "War of nerves" or "Under the bridge" show they have a soul touch. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Buy it! I miss them.
