Felt like writing a review of this one, after giving my copy a play last night. JJ's "1814" album is really worthwhile, successfully welding a "state-of-the-nation" social commentary and a good dance ethic.

JJ grooves her way through "Rhythm Nation", "State Of The World", "The Knowledge", and the irrepressible "Miss You Much" before slowing things down a touch on the tremendous "Love Will Never Do". (And is that Herb Alpert doing a trumpet intervention?) The poignant "Livin' In A World" closes out the original side one of the original LP.

Then it's a question of going back up through the gears for "Alright", "Escapade" and the rockier "Black Cat" before my favourite part of "JJRN 1814". That is the breathtaking sixteen and-a-half minute ... Read More:

I have liked Simply Red since their first album, but recent albums I have been disappointed. Having read a negative review here i was not too hopeful. I also thought it would be just Mick Hucknell singing solo (Sinatra style).

I was wrong - this is an EXCELLENT album. Old and new. Slow and fast tracks, improved versions of old songs, a latin twist.

If you like Simply Red - this is an excellent album. BUY IT.

Survivor

When I bought this, iPod's wasn't around but it stayed permanently in my CD player for the best part of a year. Having never really been a huge ran of rnb, I bought this on a whim (hey, I was young) but this is one of the few albums of my younger years that I bothered putting on my iPod.

It is quite frankly the best DC album. "Brown Eyes" will always have a place in my heart.

For the first few years of the 21st century, Destiny's Child ruled the roost in terms of pop music. Their touch was golden, and pretty much everything they released was extremely successful in the UK or the USA, or both.

Listening to this collection, it's not difficult to know why. Their competence in carrying off great pop hooks is considerable, and their vocals are way better than those of people in so-called 'credible' Indie bands. Vocals should actually count for something, and by God can Beyonce Knowles carry a note.

Great pop music is all over this album, from the memorable 'Bills, Bills, Bills', to the utterly anthemic 'Independent Woman' and the similarly anthemic 'Survivor'. This was where Destiny's Child were at their best, promoting ... Read More:

I,m a great big whopping fan of Simply red, and have been for many a year! I have seen them live etc... etc.... I couldnt wait to get my hands on a copy of Home. When I heard it at first I hoped it would grow on me.. Instead, it grew mould in the back of my cupboard!! Apart from the amazing 'sunrise' and 'you make me feel brand new'.... 'It made me feel....very sleepy!'Mick's voice is amazing, its just the rest of the songs on the album are none other than pants..
