with such a mass of material to choose from,it is difficult for any record label to put together a 'good' collection that shows the entire range of Elvis' great songs but this goes a long way toward it. Well worth the place on the shelf.

I wont lie to you, I bought their first album and totally hated it.
I love this album however, and really felt I should write a review upon seeing the unfair average rating this has received so far.
The guy that did the ridiculous screaming on the first album has gone - and so has the rubbish song writing.
I am not the kind of person who judges music by lyrics (unless they are glaringly awful like 'I am a mountain, I am the sea'), so maybe I am wrong in saying that the lyrics on this album are totally inoffensive. I am sure I am not wrong in saying that this album is jam packed with well written, catchy, melodic rock songs that you wont want to skip.

I've found Brian's solo work a little "mixed" but this, possibly his most autobiographical work to date, is just fabulous. It takes as its theme the California that produced the fabulous Beachboys sound, and the image of surf and sun. It travels through a travelogue of L.A. an "apology" from Brian for the lost years, a moving statement on depression and its ultimate futility, a fond memory of his "Surfer Girl" and a moving tribute in "Southern California" to his brothers, Carl and Dennis. all backed by the beautiful harmonies of that band. Beautiful. You just wish, occassionally that Carl's voice could reinforce Brian's or even that the now notorious Mike Love, could have a nasal part to play. Beautiful!

It pains me to say it, but after much time spent genuinely trying to like this album and find some quality in it I have to say its dissapointing. It's not terrible by any stretch but its just bland. Like so many have stated before me it just fails to live up to previous works, I mean it really dosen't sit with the others at all. It feels like a tired re-working of previous efforts and themes. Maybe 'Live' some of these tracks may jump out, but I feel doubtful when you know the likes of Mr.Jones, Round Here, Long December, Mrs. Potters Lullaby are coming. The Crows are and probably will always be one of my favourite bands and I know the depths this band can take you to, but I guess Im growing up a little at 30! but I don't know if this band is growing with me. It took ... Read More:

I've never been one for the jazz themed white noise thrashouts so beloved of Mr Pierce, but always loved the droney cathedral rock of his earlier days (which I appreciate is just as unmusical to some ears - I absolutely love Pure Phase). Ladies and Gentlemen is undoubtedly his masterpiece (jazz themed white noise thrashouts notwithstanding), but why oh why did I not buy a second copy and keep the first fresh in its pill box?
Anyway, post L&G the work declined. Some decent stuff on Let it come down, but I didn't bother with Amazing Grace. This is a return to form. I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who said he might need a bit more inspiration when it comes to song titles, but the songs and music are back. I cannot stop listening to Death Take ... This is by-far my favourite stereophonics album:
Superman: This is my all time favourite, it kick starts the album with a really catchy tune, the words though such as "Superman on an aeroplane sitting next to louis lane" is not anything i can relate to lol, but i just love Kelly's vocals it shows the strength his voice can go.
Doorman: Now this song i wasnt struck on when i first got the album, i thought it was a little too heavy with the rock n roll, but after playing the album over and over it has grown on me - i love the chorus where the guitar breaks down and Kelly's voice takes over, this song has got attitude!
Brother: i dont like the verses to this song but i love the chorus another rocky song.
Devil: Another all time favourite of mine!!! Love the ... Read More:

Thank you CSI. Thank you very much. You give me to things I cherish in life. The Who and Gary Sinise. Amen.
I can rant about how beautiful Gary Sinise is another day, but now, this is all about The Who.
The Who. Who are they you migh ask. Who are The Who? How can you answer a quistion like that...
They are maybe the best British band ever. They are unique. Sensational, brillaint and have fancy hair. (Not pointing at anyone, Roger. XD)
If I ever met someone named Baba O'Riely, i'd tell her to stop crying, we all live in a Teenage Wasteland anyway...
And The Who made that Teenage Wasteland a better place...

In the midst of reading the Eno biography "On Some Faraway Beach" -about page 120 if you are pedantic - i came to the section where the narrative deals with Roxy Music,s 1973 album For Your Pleasure. Described as a "gruelling and disquieting experience|" by Charles Shaar Murray on its release ( that was a compliment) Roxy,s second album is easily the best of their career melding Bryan Ferry,s art rock styling's with Brian Eno,s sonic sculptures and dissonant tweaks.
The Roxy line up at that time had the classic elements of Ferry , Andrew Mackay and Phil Manzanera along with the soon to depart Eno , bassist John Porter-who would soon depart also, Roxy going through bassist ,s like Spinal Tap through drummers and Paul Thompson on drums. The band were able to revel in the extra studio ... Read More:

Weezer were never a unique group, their blend of Kiss inspired tunes mixed with Beach Boys harmonies are true to the fact that they were nothing more four college/university friends putting together the music they loved. Of course their career has remained a storied one thanks to the awkwardness of River Cuomo's mindscape.
Although it was probably in a bad position when it was released back 1994, Weezer's self titled debut was and still remains their shining moment. Mostly famous for the Spike Jonze directed video for Buddy Holly and the incomparable Undone (Sweater Song), Weezer (or The Blue Album) is a blueprint (excuse the expression) in geekiness.
This is also probably the greatest reason why Rivers is one of the best songwriters out there, with simple songs like My Name ... Read More:
