I fell in love with this movie when it first opened in theaters and I loved all the music in it, including the score, and particularly the bit where Colin Firth proposes to Aurelia. But when I bought the CD here in the US, all it had what the popular pop stuff! (I guess they figured Americans wouldn't appreciate the beautiful instrumental music? Probably right actually.) You guys in the UK got the whole deal. It will be well worth the overseas shipping!!

The Very Best of Sting and the Police

What can you say about "Best of ..." albums that simply list the hits? Well, as "Best of" album's go, this is one of the best! Nine Police hits and another nine of Sting's as a soloist, all written by the main man himself.

One of the benefits of this format is that it allows you to revisit songs away from the context of the album in which they originally appeared. And so I was able to appreciate just how brilliant "Fields of Gold", "Brand New Day", "Desert Rose" and "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" really are: they are truly five-star songs. But the downside is that you also realise just how annoying is "Can't Stand Losing You".

But that's the only duff track in what is an excellent selection of songs.

There are a lot of reviews on this album, time and time again Nevermind seems to stretch its fuzzy head and look over, all I can say is ,to me Nevermind has some good tracks and Ten has some brilliant. its impossible to even compare them with each other, a bit like saying Grand Funk Railroad ( early years ) were like the Mahavishnu orchestra. total difference Pearl Jam are a clever group of musicians who write play and express themselves perfectly, the Nevermind crew had a few catchy riffs.

Tired Of Hanging Around

To be honest, I did not think much of "Who Killed..." A couple of catchy pop tunes, for sure, but it was "bubble gum" music for the most part. This album remains true to the band's sense of having fun with their music, but it has a much more confident sound and the production is much improved. Touring the States with The Killers also seems to have rubbed off on how the band now sounds. Moreover, to their credit, the record again romps home in just over 40 minutes.

The themes are varied and frequently concern the more mundane aspects of life - the stress of taking public transport to work ("Tired of Hanging Around"), why good nights out always end in miserable hangovers the next day ("It's the Little Things We Do"), or getting over a relationship ... Containing none of their most famous hits, 'Katy Lied' is nevertheless Steely Dan's most gorgeous collection of songs. There is perhaps less invention and more commercialism in the music, but this is deceptive, for the invention is in the writing. 'Bad Sneakers' features attention-grabbing twists in both music and lyrics, as does the lovely 'Doctor Wu', though, like many of the band's songs, its meaning is elusive. The opening image of suicide on the strident 'Black Friday,' by contrast, is stark. 'Everyone's Gone To The Movies' shows them in buoyant mood. The highlights of this album are great. However,I Can See A Liar, Little James And Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is are far from great.Had they been replaced with some of the B-Sides of the era (One Way Road,Let's All Make Believe,etc) it could have been a great album.

The current single"Love is noise"is pure and Classic The Verve so Consequently it is "The First of Forth!" and what an album it is!!
in years to come this could be thought of as highly as "Northern Souls" and "Urban Hyms" the fact that the only good two bands from Manchester have got back toghether with new albums,(the others being James)
The album features the classic traits of the Verve.epic productions and sonic explorations,this is a great album.
The accompanying dvd is also rather good as well.
Just think with james and The Verve back together whats the betting on Hermans Hermits aand with Joy Division/New order unlikely to get together again that would be three good bands to come out of Manchester!!!

The Velvet Underground

I keep on coming back to some of the tracks on this album, and yes, I did buy it on shiny black vinyl when it came out in the late sixties. For me, some kinda love, pale blue eyes, and what goes on are the standout tracks, but, it has to be said, there's not one duffer on the album. Best of all, it sounds as good today as it did back in sixty nine. An absolute classic gem of soft but weird rock, beautifully produced and recorded, and showcasing Lou Reed's song writing at its best. Buy it and enjoy! This is one of the best albums of all time, and truly seminal in the way it influenced rock music from then on.
