Paul Ess, calm down. If you want to rant about this scourge on the land that is the Pikie, do it in your local paper, not a review section FOR A MUSIC CD. People want to know what you think of the music, not your hang-ups and prejudices.

Clearly, if you like Essex, you'll buy the CD, go and see the musical and have a good time. The songs are solid, at least in their original incarnations. Try before you buy, or consider a greatest hits package if you don't like 'reinterpretations' of these songs.

I bought POB on the strength of the reviews on here having never heard it (or heard of it) before and because I'm a big Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fan.
After several plays it still leaves me with mixed feelings. I admire much of the musical diversity of the tracks but often find the words hard to decipher (partly due to DW's diction and partly to the vocals often being set back in the mix) What the songs do have however is a soul-baring openess and honesty to them, which I think music should be about. POB is a worthwhile addition to an Beach Boy's collectors library but (at this stage) I cannot personally call it a 'classic' album. Listening on the ipod brings out more of the musics subtlety. An all time classic album, often imitated, but never approached let alone surpassed. Zack's vocals are incredibly emotional, and the sheer tightness and funking musicality of the band is staggering (and that comes from a guy whos played in bands for 15 years himself.)

I loved this album to death fifteen years ago. Yet, when im teaching kids today and i put it on for them, it seems just as powerful for them as it was for me back then. Stunning.

Madonna scored some of the greatest songs in the 80's and many of them are placed on this compilation album...but these are remixed versions of the album versions.
this is the greatest compelation album ever made...just a shame not all of her successful singles are captured here(whos that girl,true blue,oh father,over and over,and keep it together)but all the songs here are stunning.

i dont think the content overall needs to be reviewed, its all classic abba and can all be found elsewhere EXCEPT for I AM THE CITY, this track is still ,as far as i know, not available anywhere else except on this album,(im not counting the COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS box set,the purchase of which may necessitate a small mortgage) and i cant believe no other review has mentioned this. If you@re a fan , its the main reason to buy this album,and if your collecting all abba's recordings,it makes this essential. oh, and if you havent heard it the track is great, not one of their moving and meaningful ones but its fun,hypnotic and sparkly,;incredible arrangement and production, -i know thats kind of a given for abba- but - much more so than, for example something like YOU OWE ME ... Steely Dan's first album, like many first albums, suggests that they haven't settled on their approach. Yet this is to its advantage. While they seem to make only great albums, this is more the work of a rock band, rather than the usual Becker/Fagen dominated jazz-inflected musings. Sure, they wrote all the material here, but the other band members are allowed a more prominent role. The lead vocals of David Palmer, for instance, highlight that Donald Fagen's voice, while distinct, is probably Steely Dan's weakest link. Nevertheless, this is a minor gripe. From first track to last, this is solid-groove rock music, sophisticated, lyrically and musically imaginative, with the odd daring arrangement. All of the players get to express themselves and the harmonies are superb.

this is a cd i believe everyone should have. the songs are consistently good throughtout the whole cd. from songs like 'goodbye mr A', 'cops and robbers' and 'worried about ray' to the less celibrated songs like 'the trick to life', the worst case senario' and 'every thing goes dark'. Plus for under £5 an absolute bargain.
