Can Low do no wrong? I don't think so, and this short EP is more of their wonderful, melancholic, restful music. A must for any fan.

Sonar echoes, rumbling ambience and a keyboard that sounds so distant that it fills the room. Then there's the incredible wall of noise created by playing guitar with a cello bow. The moment when that kicks in must be one of the greatest moments in music history. Ten minutes long, some would say that this is too long, but I don't think it's long enough. A truly life-affirming song. It will either lull you into blissful sleep or brighten up your day in such a way that nothing will bring you down. Perfect in every way.

Systems/Layers is the band's fifth album, and it's a brilliant ambient musical experience. You can tune it out if you choose and it'll still enhance your surroundings, or you can engage yourself fully and allow it to positively hypnotize you. Though virtually all of Systems/Layers possesses Rachel's characteristic modern chamber ensemble sound, there are dozens of field recordings and sampled voices that seep in around the edges, mostly drawn from source material sent to the band by friends and fans, and they serve to heighten the immediacy of the music and increase its sense of place. Virtually every song here conjures urban streets and dwellings, but each does so with a different set of sources: "Wouldn't Live Anywhere Else" takes ... Read More:

within the vast amount of smog albums i would rate this in the top three along with 'red apple falls' and 'knock knock' ..with this one maybe my favourite. a lot of the songs are short and snappy (e.g. 'bathroom floor' and 'emperor'). All songs contain raw emotion, with clever lyrics and (dark)humour throughout.
highlight tracks for me would be 'be hit' and 'limited capacity' containing my fave smog line "..i've painted myself into a corner again ..'cause i didn't like the colour of my floors ..after you walked all over them" all songs are great and musically there's a lot there as well.
the dark poet, i would compare morrissey to teenagers to what smog is to an older crowd.

Summer the first track is very interesting,as is helicon 2.Sadly helicon 1 and a lot of the other tracks are slightly bland much like youngteam, but unlike young team it has fewer good tracks ,.I personally recommend Mr.Beast or Happy Songs For Happy People.Good luck!!

a real alternative view to the music of mogwai, with a flavour of pure electronica, break beats and even drum n bass. Listen to the remixes by klute, kid loco, my bloody valentine. its unmissable.

Broadcast's "Pendulum" isn't just a good intro to the full-length album "Haha Sound," it's a nice chunk of Broadcast's unique indie-rock/fuzz-electrojazz in itself. With one album track and five new others, this is a must-have for anyone interested in Broadcast. "Pendulum" is the only song that is actually from "Haha Sound," a steady drum line backed by a shimmering, slightly fuzzy backdrop. Then it shifts into different turf with shivery ballads (the wavery "Small Song IV") and offbeat indie rock (the brash "One Hour Empire," tensely bouncy "Violent Playground"). The EP rounds off with a curious experimental song, full of what sounds like phone bells and beeps underwater, which then shifts to a slow, uneasy melody, like something ... Read More:

Hell, this record is so good, I got it on cd, lp and a back up copy on minidisc just in case... if my house were on fire I would save the vinyle before my housemates - and I like them.
Just listened to the vinyl again today and it rips the hell out of so much other stuff, this makes my all-time top 10...
