A great album gathering all the big hits.
Although some classic Commodores tracks are missing such as 'I Feel Sanctified'.
There is another Compilation with all of their funky tracks although these are only the short versions.
There should be a companion CD of long lost 12" and extended remixes.
Surely 'Nightshift' was released after Lionel Richie had left the Commodores, and so it has no place on one of his albums?

I remember when this album came out back in 2001, I wasn't feeling The Neptunes at the time. I was mostly into underground hip-hop so listening to this type of stuff was considered kinda poppish. But as the years passed by, my listening taste has grown and I decided to give The Neptunes a true listen because the music nowadays have no creativity whatsoever. So stuff that I didn't like back then has now become gold. This is the masterpiece I missed out on. Before Whitney Houston, before affected "R'n'B" singers of contemporary chart fame, there was Gladys Knight, and she sure could sing. As the previous reviewer has pointed out, hers was a sweet, yet ballsy, rootsy soul. Check out cuts such as "Make Yours A Happy Home"; "Come Back And Finish What You Started" and "Bourgie Bourgie" for proof. Of course, the album's highlight is the iconic "Midnight Train To Georgia" with its wonderful horn intro, bass line, keyboards and Gladys' memorable fade-out vocal. There is also the sublime "Help Me Make It Through The Night", "The Way We Were" and my own personal favourite ballad of hers, "So Sad The Song". If you can, buy a copy of the original offering, its got a massive 60 tracks! Once the postman has been you'll have all you need to stage a great all nighter for all your soul mates......... so turn up the volume, get the talc on the floor and let your feet go free!

HAVING SEEN TAVARES LIVE OVER 25 YEARS AGO, I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THE BROTHERS ARE VOCALLY.....BRILLIANT! THIS CD SHOWCASES THEIR TOP DRAWER POP/SOUL RECORDS. PEOPLE ALWAYS MENTION "HEAVEN MUST BE MISSING AN ANGEL" WHEN THEY REFER TO DISCO MUSIC, TO MY MIND THAT IS REALLY UNDER SELLING WHAT IS QUITE SIMPLY A BRILLIANT POP RECORD. NOT MUCH TO DO WITH SOUL I SUPPOSE BUT A TRUE POP CLASSIC. TAVARES CAN SOUL IT UP WITH THE BEST OF THEM AND IF YOU PREFER A MORE SOULFUL SOUND THEN CHECK OUT THEIR EARLY CAPITOL RECORDS. You cannot fit all of Marvin's hits on a single CD but this collection has most of the essentials. From a British perspective, one advantage that this has over the double CD (Very best of, which was compiled in America but released in both the UK and USA) is that it includes three UK top ten hits that are not on the double CD, these being Onion song (supposedly with Tammi Terrell, though Tammi was too ill to record the song and a sound-alike substituted), You are everything (with Diana Ross) and Abraham Martin and John (which was an American hit for Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, not Marvin Gaye).

There is no room on this CD to explore Marvin's career in depth, but it does contain all his important British hits (some minor hits have been omitted) and on that basis, ... Read More:

Late Night Tales

Similar to previous review, I wasn't sure on first listen, a bit disappointed it wasn't a typical Fatboy house mix. But I gave it another chance and there are mainly cracking tunes on there which really grow on you.

I've now been playing this CD every other day for a few weeks and seem to enjoy it more each time.

I would recommend anyone to buy this - it will open you to some great tunes you've never heard before.

In my opinion this is the first time a collection has been released on Dusty that truly covers her career properly. I may be biased! All of the US and UK hits from the sixties in their original Mono mixes as well as a healthy dose of her Atlantic soul period with all the comeback hits at the end. This is the one to get whether your new to Dusty or even if you think you have everything. No fan should be without this one.
