There is a moment, a few minutes into "And The Healing Has Begun" when Van lets his guard down and begins to whoop with pure joy and we realise the old sourpuss is actually enjoying himself ! It must be a great feeling for him to realise his band is totally with him. As a perfectionist he can get no higher than this. The is pure musical majesty of the kind produced rarely by anyone, anywhere.
That is the main reason for buying this album. Of course there are many, many others, but you simply do not really need to know them. Oh ok - the breezy delight of "Bright Side Of The Road"; the Irish folky lilt of "Rolling Hills" and "Troubadours"; the almost disco-esque 70s summery funky soul of "You Make Me Feel So Free"; the sheer goodtime joie ... Waits' 6th album, after the rather safe and by the numbers "Foreign Affair", is a much bluesier affair, with guitars finally joining Waits and making a harder-edged affair than before.
A very desperate "Somewhere" from West Side Story is an acquired taste, with its heavy orchestration, but after that the album picks up notably. "Romeo Is Bleeding" is a classic, "Xmas Card..." is Waits taking a new lyrical standpoint - that of the titular hooker, and a moving number it is too. But there's more - the straightforward blues of "$29.00" and the wonderfully simple, straight-to-the-heart narrative of the closing title track.
Accessible and yet powerful, this album proves a welcome reinvention for Waits, and the bluesy style again ... Read More:

This CD may be a bit miserable with the running time, but it's better to have ten good tracks rather than fifteen middling ones.
It has most of Winwood's better known songs, such as While You See a Chance and Arc of a Diver, so it's a good introduction to his music. In any case there are only two or three Winwood compilations available and the other one has material from his Spencer Davis and Traffic days.
The only drawback to this CD is the sound, which is somewhat muddy and transferred at a very low level.

Although this 2-disc set is not a completely comprehensive collection of Bowie's singles (the novelty UK hit The Laughing Gnome is missing, for example), the album does contain the crème de la crème of his early work, from 1969's Space Oddity to Day-in Day-out from the late 1980s. Disc One covers draws on albums like Ziggy Stardust, Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane, Pin Ups, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station To Station and Low. The song Wild Is The Wind on the second disc properly belongs here, next to Golden Years.
Disc Two opens with the magnificent and stirring Heroes and includes material from the Lodger, Scary Monsters, Let's Dance and other albums, plus collaborations like Under Pressure, the funk masterpiece with Queen, This is not America with Pat Metheny ... Read More:

What a fantastic record. Hot Chocolate made some absolutely marvellous records & this collection is testament to that fact.
The songs are smooth as silk, funky, sexy, saucy, bitter & sweet. The musicianship is fantastic,as is the production & if Errol's voice was a business, I reckon Ann Summers would be bankrupt.
You do forget with some bands how much quality they produced & Hot Chocolate are probably for many people, one of those bands. I thoroughly enjoy this record, its pure quality (& its a tip top party record too !)
A must own - no, really, it is !!

I bet David Jordan gets a bit fed up with the "artist formerly known as" and the one-album-wonder that was T-T-D'arby comparisons. Let's give the guy a chance to enjoy his 1st album on the shelves before we consign him to either superstardom or bargain bin album no.2. He has a great R'n'B voice and strong songwriting skills - at least four or five good singles on the cd.
I was lucky enough to get this cd for my birthday after raving about the "Sun Goes Down" video to my girlfriend. I like the pace of the album, the opening track has a great guitar intro and sets up a groove that carries through to the stand-out track, Sun Goes Down, a great big bouncy track with loads of layers of rythm and sounds.
The title track changes the style to more R'n'B which proves how ... Read More:

This CD is essentially Albert's mid-60s record "Born under a bad sign" - one of the classic electric blues records - with the addition of the Stax singles "I love Lucy" "Funk shun" and "Cold feet" and a couple of others. All his classics are here that were recorded by many others in the second blues boom - "Pretty woman", "The hunter", "Crosscut saw" and of course the song "Born under a bad sign" itself. At the time in the 60s many of my friends were into soul and didn't like blues but they liked this record, which is blues you can dance to.
Albert was probably the most limited of the Kings (B.B. and Freddie) both as a guitarist and a singer but what he does he does wonderfully well - a powerful, relaxed voice and a screaming, sinuous guitar weaving in and out of ... Read More:

In 1990, George Michael had released his second album entitled, LISTEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE VOLUME 1. This album is not what FAITH turned out to be, for this album, still taking up George's sound of Pop/R&B, sheds George of his FAITH skin. This is a great album that DOES cover the concept of what is going on the world.
PRAYING FOR TIME
The first single from the album. This song is beyond amazing. It is definitely one of the best songs on this album. It seems to focus on the way we all struggle to survive in the world of today. I think he's trying to point out that making money these days is not all hunky dory. If listen closely to just the music, it'll sound like something John Lennon would compose.
FREEDOM 90
The second single from the album. No, ... Read More:
