I bought this album because I love all things Joni and loved her 'mingus' period and have always been a longstanding Herbie fan. I thought it may be something in that style. How wrong I was. This is the worst kind of Jazz there is. Utterly pointless and usually bears no relation at all to the original song. What's the point of re-doing a song if it's going to have only a 1% similarity or reference to the original? It's a great lesson in how 2 things that you think are great may not be that great together!
Move along. Nothing to see here...

I have to admit, i wasn't a big fan of Christina when she first came out. I thought she would just turn out to be a typical bubble-gum pop icon. However this album has proved me wrong. In a word, this album is AMAZING!! When i was growing up my parents would always be playing old soul and blues music, which i loved, this album is like a tribute to that style of music. I think other artists these days should go Back to Basics, and make good listening music rather than just club tracks all the time. Stand out tracks include: Makes me wanna pray, Back in the day, Ain't no other man, Understand and Mercy On Me.

If you're a fan of Tina Turner and looking for a greatest hits album, this is the one to go for. There are a few other "hits" compilations but this is undoubtedly the most complete. It has all of the best stuff and a few live versions too. Most importantly for me it has the track "Proud Mary" from her time with Ike. An excellent compilation of hits from a star of genuine quality.

I bought this Album towards the end of last year. The amount I've played it, you'd think I should be done with it. I'm not. Instead I find myself constantly fishing it out to listen to at home, in the car, to my friends. Everytime its on in company, someone inevitably asks me who it is. Northern Girls is a great track, but I'm happy to let the CD just play, and (almost) never feel the urge to skip forward. If you like Ben Westbeech, Little Dragon, Erykah Badu, Lamb, this is a definite must. Don't be put of if you have never heard them before, the album is instantly likeable -but not unintelligent.

A previous reviewer made mention of the absence of 'Dancing on The Ceiling'. Didn't really notice it when you have old hits such as Hello, Penny Lover, Say You Say Me, Three Times a Lady and practically the rest of the album save 'Do It To Me', 'My Destiny' and Love Oh Love. The latter really turbo boosts an already rocket powered album.
