When I first saw matisyahu performing youth and king without a crown via the web I was blown away by his presence and songcraft, listening 2 this album was one of the biggest anti-climaxes 4 me ever and I have a feeling it is due 2 label pressure 2 release a substandard work. In truth there are a handful of killer tracks but the rest is messy utopian drivel and I hate to say so because i know this act are the real deal and I have a suspicion there next release will prove me right. gr8 singles, dire album

It's funny the regular bloke in the once much admired Record Collector
shop in Sheffield didn't know he had in stock this blockbusting new album (his first in ten years), especially when you consider MS dominates the front of the new Wire (for obvious reasons) which was proudly displayed upright on the top of the counter.
'Have you heard it yet?' I inquires as he takes me 12 squid...
'No.' as his eyes tries to avert my probe...
'Look, he's all over the Wire and it's a really great article'.
'I don't read Wire' he says.
What can you do?
This is a block-rocking, smart new effort from the father of scratch-punk-dub.. whatever you want to call it. Powerful beats, samples, Marks' strong-as ... Read More:

The great man had lots of great albums but this for me was his best.
This is the hardest.
Uncompromising lyrics backed up by solid rhythms.
Release Date May 21, 2007
I bought this album and I haven't listened to anything else since.
You know when you hear a track off and album and then buy it and it turns out that the track you heard was the only good one... well that doesn't happen here.
I don't normally write these reviews, but on this occaision I am as I have enjoyed this album so much that I want to recommend it to as many people as possible.
This is a brilliant album. Every track is great. If its sunny, it's just the thing to listen to. If it's grey and miserable out, put it on and it feels like its sunny outside.
This is probably going to be my favorite album of the year. And if you get "Reggae Hit L.A." to go with it you'll have an hour and a half of great music ... Read More:

One of the reviewers refers to the music as adding to his collection of Indian classical music. If one were to draw the line dividing classical from 'pop' music, based on popularity, the review readers will be pleased to know that this music would be called 'pop' music.
The Vedic and other Hindu chants included in this record are a part of many Sanaatan-dharmi Hindu homes in their daily devotional routines.
Tracks 4 and 5 also form part of prayer in many schools in North India. 'Asato Maa' is a prayer to be led from falsehood to truth, darkness to light, death to eternal life, and hence suits the pursuit of knowledge. 'Sahanaavavatu', which is how it should be written in true representation from Sanskrit, is a prayer for togetherness in working ... Read More:

Man, this is a bad album. Unless you like reggae or ska of course, in which case it's fine. But if you're looking to buy this as a back catalogue of Gwen Stefani, then please don't, it really isn't very listenable.
Release Date June 25, 2001

After the shock of just how well their almost garage-recorded debut album, "Signing Off" was received, UB40 found themselves a decent studio (not that the first album had bad sound in any way at all), found that they already had a reputation and considerable kudos amongst the punk/new wave fallout and laid down more of the same formula. As in "Signing Off", the band blended a rock steady, chugging reggae rhythm with Brian Travers' trademark deep saxophone and Ali Campbell's mournful, often incomprehensible voice to produce the UB40 sound. This time they expanded just a little to allow resident band toaster "Astro" free reign on dubby, vocally improvised tracks like "Lamb's Bread" and the intoxicating "Don't Let It Pass You By", with it brassy, almost funky beat, congas and ...
