I don't really understand why Eddy Grant has somehow disappeared out of the main public's view, especially not after hearing this Greatest hits compilation (HMV doesn't even have it in their catalogue). Tracks such as "I don't wanna dance" and "Gimme hope Joanna" have a peculiar lasting effect on me. Eddy Grant's got a talent for capturing the essence of human life, and it really rocks.

Rate alongside Mona Lisa, Ulysses etc. I bought this on vinyl on Go Feet records in about 1982 as a student desperate to get hip to the sounds of reggae, on the basis of a four star review in the NME.
This record is a revelation. It takes you into the beautiful black heart of Rastafari and the harrowing experience of the African diaspora via the poetry of the bible, the otherworldly vocal harmonising of Cedric Myton et al and Lee Perry's miraculous production. It is truly ravishing and without doubt one of the greatest records of all time.

You can't beat reggae when it comes to love songs and here is a collection of the finest old day reggae classics including Janet Kay. makes a great backgound track for couple time.
Release Date March 13, 2000
Half of this album is excellent - the title track, which enjoyed phenomenal success in the aftermath of the Notting Hill Riots in 1976, "Lucifer" (on Devon Irons' "Ketch Vampire" Rhythm), a remake of his sixties tune "Solomon" on a brand new Upsetter rhythm, "Tedious" and "Easy Task". the rest of it is, I'm afraid to say, filler. Somewhat unmemorable songs are sung well over generic Lee Perry tracks of no great inspiration (of which, regrettably he made many), but little of the remaining tracks sticks in the mind or draws the listener back.

This is what modern reggae is all about, bought my copy on the beach in Negril, and have treasured it ever since, great and varied album. You can't go anywhere in jamaica without hearing a bit of Tarrus, and thats for one good reason, he's brilliant.

`Question is does Bunny sound like Bob, or does Bob sound like Bunny!? No matter, the inspirational source is the same and the result is exultation, as the Blackheart man gives praise to the most high!
Purchased as an after thought while looking for some Burning Spear, this album has kept me so sweet since buying it over a week ago. Tracks 5 & 7 are the only weak points on this solid Roots- Rock- Steady offering. `The Oppressed Song' and `Bide Up' are like medicine for the soul. Buy this. I defy you to be disappointed!
