"Young, Gifted, & Black 2" is a sequel and there are rules about any sequel in that it's likely most of the heavy hitters were on the first edition. What this can mean is a very mixed bag but also that some lesser remembered gems get polished off in the process, and that is pretty much what happens here.

First and foremost this is a collection of the pop end of the reggae market and, as such, has a duty to provide its market with some chart hits. Having cut numerous massive selling 12" singles with Sly and Robbie ("Leaving To Zion", "General Penitentiary", "Shine Eye Gal") for a variety of labels, Black Uhuru were snapped up by Island and given a contract that allowed them enough studio time to make albums, and sent to work with their favourite ryhthm section.

The result was an album that was far ahead of most reggae of its time, and pointed the way towards the emerging digital dancehall sounds, without resorting to the cheap sexism of the "slackness" that so disfigured that music's early years. Live LPs are usually a once, twice maybe three time trinket for the band, but if your getting into The Specials pick this up and let it guide you .

Culture could have made a greatest Hits with at least 20 of their best songs. The collection of songs they have made is formidable. They have hits as far back as the 70's. This album should be much better! I am very disapointed. I have made a much better collection than this one!

This album is truly rammed with just about all the great cuts Mr.Issacs has cut during the years stated.His prolific volume of work for all these years means a few magic tracks may have been overlooked but this will be purely because of lack of space on two CDs.Trojan have done a great job on this set and whoever put it together must be a true fan.Even the Sly nd Robbie (Island tracks are included which brings his biggest hit-Night Nurse along with some others from the album.This realy does showcase the artist's vocal diversity as he has had to adapt to the onset of modern dance hall.
