I have Amazon to thank for bringing Elbow to my attention many years ago. I bought some CD or other and they did their cheeky "if you like that, you might like this ..." and recommended Elbow's debut album Asleep in the Back. I did something I have never done before or since and bought the CD without hearing a note just because I liked their name. And I loved the CD. I then bought Cast of Thousands - Grace Under Pressure is sublime - and Leaders of the Free World and really enjoyed both. Seldom Seen Kid is different though. It is by far their finest work yet and easily the best album I've heard this year. The lyrics and Guy Garvey's voice are wonderful. Grounds for Divorce and One Day Like This are so good they give you shivers but Mirrorball ... Read More:

This is an outstanding album from a true bluesman. Major record company involvement has not dented his ability to produce searing blues with a wonderful sincerity and his usual humility. Delta style blues at its best.

Oasis albums - like Coldplay albums - seem to polarise people like nothing else. I am not a massive Oasis fan but I do recognise their contribution to music over the past decade or so. This album comes across as similar to REM's 'Monster' album. It is consistently edgy and angry and DOES feel like the band were 'on a roll'. It is also pretty consistent across most of the 11 tracks. However, the main problems with this album are that (a)we have heard it all before whether it is previous Oasis albums or John Lennon, (b)the tracks are quite 'samey' - there is very little variety in style. (c) are we going to get tired of this album? There is very little here that is new or endearing; it's angry, edgy rock music with little in the way of contrast.

I've been thinking about getting this CD for a while now. Kept up to date with all the reviews etc. Have to say average to good. It's ok, just overall a little 'down' sounding and samey. I agree with most that Mercy is far and away the outstanding track, and Duffy's voice is fantastic, it could just do with some better material, so five stars for Duffy, but four for the CD.

I loved Cold Play's two first albums, I feel like I could get absorbed in them and never skip a track.
I have listened to this new album about 10 times and I just don't feel the same way about this album. When listening to this album I honestly say I enjoy about 3 of the songs, the rest well I really don't.
Release Date August 25, 2008
As a Verve fan I've listened to the album over & over again on my work PC & in my Car and I rate it highly!
Stand out songs for me are 'Numbness', 'Noise Epic' & my personal favourite 'Columbo'.
Great Album.....Buy it!
Release Date March 10, 2008
I bought this album off the back of a couple of songs I'd heard here and there. For maybe the first few listens I was thinking that actually those few songs I'd heard were the only really excellent tracks on there - the rest being ok, but nothing special.
Listen on tho!
Really worth it - some bits are growers, but now I am completely in love with this album!

Once again, the Bob Dylan bootleg series has unearthed some great unreleased gems, demos, outtakes and live recordings this time ranging from the period of 'Oh Mercy' to 'Modern Times'. The stripped down songs such as 'Mississippi' are very different to the released versions and in many respects more poignant.'Red River Shore', an unreleased outtake from 'Time Out Of Mind' is the outstanding track in the collection, though its hard to fault any of the 27 songs. If you have any of the previous volumes in this series you will know what to expect and will not be disappointed. One of the best releases of 2008 and an essential buy.

What a great album! By far and away their best, before they succumbed to Coldplay-type anthems on Seldom Seen Kid. Every track a winner, but "Very best" is well titled. Enjoy! Anyone that can get Stockport Supporters Club into the lyrics of a ballad is alright by me!!
