Release Date March 05, 2007
THis album is fantastic - really dirty, brilliant opening track, wonderful lyrics great melodies. 'Get it on' and 'I don't need you to set me free' are as good as any tracks on any Nick Cave album. Puts the rest of the rock world to shame.
Release Date November 01, 1990
Madonna's music in the 1980s was excellent. But why people would be tricked to buy this is amazing. This came out right after I turned 12 years old and knew immediatley not to buy it. Doesn't it seem to good to be true to have Borderline, Like A Virgin, Live To Tell, Into The Groove, Like A Prayer, and Vogue (the latter song not even being 5 months old when this was released) all on one disc? When it seems to be too good to be true, it usually is. A friend of mine made a copy for me on cassette 5 years after the release. It was exactly what I thought: they were not the original versions. And to be more direct, they are not even the single versions. People have the tendency to say that this album has the single versions. Not true. All of these songs ... Read More:

Like many of the reviewers I spent part of my childhood with my mum and step dad playing Crowded House every other hour. At the time I was far to obsessed with keeping my attempted image to want anything to do with what my mum liked. Now over ten years on I noticed this CD for cheap on Amazon and recalled some of the songs in my head which was just enough to tempt me into a purchase. I am glad I did.
I can honestly say that of all my music as an overall album this greatest hits has to be one of the best CD's I own. This is one of the few CD's where I can put it on and have the certainty that every song I hear will excel. If you like me ignored this band in the 90's due to being too young to appreciate the music you should definitely look into buying ... Read More:

I'm not gonna lie - I thought Employment was an utterly brilliant record. It made me quite obsessed with the chiefs that yeah and is still in my Top 20 all time favourite albums which is saying something.
So you can imagine how heartbroken I was when I finally heard this. Yes, it's good but nothing special at all, certainly not in the way the first one was. I was so excited for the record I downloaded bad quality live rips off the internet and loved what I was hearing - a more serious direction with still some great music. But unfortunatley Lightning never strikes in the same place twice and Stephen Street turned those brilliant tunes into something quite bland.
With Employment I listened to a track off it pretty much every day for a year, ... Read More:

In 1980, I bought my first album, and this was it - followed by its twin blue album as soon as I had another £5.49! No one could fault its songs and strengths, but I hereby contest that this selection does NOT represent the Beatles as it could have done.
Why? Well, it's entirely written by Lennon and McCartney (only their 2nd such album, after A Hard Day's Night). Their 1962-6 output was about 20% covers, and Twist and Shout is surely one of the 28 tracks which should represent the group for this period (a huge hit US single and UK EP). Again, Till There Was You could have exemplified McCartney's 'respectable pop balladeer' aspirations (which I do respect).
Interestingly, there are 6 songs from the now neglected Rubber Soul vice just the 2 singles from Revolver. ... Read More:

For anyone who has never heard this album before and is looking for something that will leave them spellbound and completely exhausted of all emotions, I really envy you. For you, unlike the millions who already own this, still have the joy of listening to something that is really unique, for the very first time. Rarely can a combination of songs, performer and audience have come together so comprehensively as one, in such an emotionally charged package. From classic love songs to fever pitched gospel, Diamond takes you on a rollercoaster of moods . The energy and sensitivity of his performance has never been equalled. You can't fake an audience response, the like of which I have never heard before or since after his stunning rendition of Holly Holy. Something magical happened ... Read More:

It's hard to really put the experience of listening to this album into words. It is just a relentlessly gorgeous soundscape, even by Sigur Ros' own high standards.
Of all their albums, this is the most seamless. As many listeners have commented, the songs seem to blend into each other, as if they are different movements of one work, and the album as a whole simply encapsulates me.
That is not to say that the mood is a constant throughout. Rather, the melancholy of Track 1 gives way to the gentle and beautiful optimism of Track 3, whilst the mood of Track 4 drifts between the two, in a wonderfully passive, relaxed way. The second half of the album, in contrast, is considerably darker, whilst maintaining the beauty of the first half. It is the darker songs ... Read More:

I've no doubt that all my opinions on this album have been mentioned in previous reviews so I'll be brief.
Every song on Nirvana is a classic. The better known songs (Smells...,Come as you are, Lithium) don't overshadow the other 9(10?) at all. For this kind of sound to be generated by a 3 piece is remarkable.
At the time of release Kobain's dark lyrics and manic delivery might have seemed a bit over the top and false but unfortunately time proved that he really was pissed off with everything.
A must for any rock fans collection.
PS 10 minutes after the end of the last song on the track listing another song starts up. Sounds a bit like a jam session but worth listening to.
