It is not hard to see why Neil stopped making music for so many years, I mean let's face it, any new material he puts out will be compared with his humungous back catalogue of popular songs. The previous offereing '12 Songs' for instance was nice enough, but after playing it quite a bit at first, there wasn't anything to keep me coming back for more, so it's been collecting dust for the last year or so.
'Home Before Dark' however, is quite a different proposition. The album was being promoted with 'Pretty Amazing Grace', a wholesome and instantly appealing God song, that prompted my wife, (who likes that sort of thing) to chuck a copy in the shopping trolly; I'm so glad she did - even though I'd have saved a couple of quid at ... this CD is really just another example of the music companies trying to fleece us the poor consumer. whilst the music of Billy Joel is superb in any format this best of is just a rehash of his Essential collection.
unless you have a burning desire to own Scenes from an Italian Resteraunt and Only the Good Die young then i would seriously recommend 'The Essential Billy Joel' 36 tracks in all and 16 of them which you get on this album.

I know that this band has influences from Coldplay and Keane, but they are much better than those bands in my opinion. I thought Keane's singles from the last album were great, especially Crystal ball, so I think this is more like the new Keane than the old Keane. Although I think OneRepublic is their own individual band and maybe they shouldn't be compared.
When I first heard this band's song re-mixed by Timbaland, I wasn't expecting the band to do any solo songs because I thought it was sort of organised by Timblalnd, but it turns out that Timbaland re-mixed OneRepublic's version of Apologize and made it sound better. There was just something about that song that attracted me to the band. When Stop and stare was first released, it took me a while ... Read More:

This album is just brilliant.
I started off thinking that it was all a bit odd and that only "Weird Fishes" really stood out. However after several listenings all the tracks stand out, which despite being a tad illogical is true.
Further proof in my ever so humble opinion that Radiohead are the finest band since the Beatles, bar none. I also liked the way the album was sold. I received the cd as a present from a friend who had voluntarily paid for it.
In spite of the cynics who say that the idea of optional payment was just another marketing ploy or the indulgence of a rich band, I think that the fact that people continue to buy the record, and that at time of writing (july 31 2008)the album is at no.38 in the Amazon ... Read More:

Finally this album is rereleased!! Certainly the best solo beach boy album (though the competition isn't much!) and definetly one of my favourites from the 70s. And the excitement for many a DW fan - all the unreleased tracks, some of which i had heard on scratchy bootleg before. Parts of the mixing for the Bambu tracks is not the best, i've heard better versions elsewhere - particularly wild situation, but overall you cant complain especially when there were a few tracks id never heard before and blew my mind (love remember me, are you real and cocktails). Now all we need is another DW cd with all the other amazing songs he's done e.g early 70s stuff(carry me home, lady, sound of free etc)and whatever else he's done - then we'll be happy. A decent DW documentary ... Read More:

This is why, when captive on an aeroplane, you should listen/watch different stuff. This is the most compelling new album I've heard for a while - keep listening to it, and discovering new depths. It's clever, simultaneously retro and bang up to date, and quite fascinating. Remarkable.

In Britain, if you are male, you are expected to like football, drink poor quality lager, behave like an idiot every Friday and Saturday night, and shout "get in!" every time someone says something you like the sound of. The Pigeon Detectives are the soundtrack to the lives of the people who embrace these expectations.
Release Date June 25, 2007
A soaring album, cinematic in scope, combining pathos and melody with well crafted lyrics, driving bass and thunderous drums. Yes there is a similarity with Joy Division but there is so much more to this band than that. The progression in song writing from The Back Room to this is considerable. This band are learning and honing their craft...fast. Intelligent and gripping, highly recommended.

Thought about buying this for a while, kept listening and re-listening to the 30sec excerpts on itunes and then eventually took the plunge. Glad I did as it's actually much better and with more depth to it than the excerpts would suggest. Very pleasant to listen to, very Californian and very 'beach'. A very good 'summer Saturday morning after a good Friday night before' type of CD - goes well with coffee and toast!
