I'm writing this review simply because I don't see any reviews for any of Andy Stewart's works and there ought to be. It's hard to express why I like his stuff but I'll try.
I had the good luck to begin my interest in trad. songs as a teenager, by discovering Andy Stewart. If there is one word to express his gift in singing it is: FUN. I never met the man, but he reminds me of old uncle....who would show up at family occasions to become the life and soul of the party. You know the type, always had a full repetoire of jokes and stories and always managed to fill the room. That's Andy Stewart. I haven't listened to him for a while now but I still smile just thinking of his renditions.

I just love this album, from start to finish its brilliant. Perhaps I'm biased though... I have a (background in and) love for Scottish music and have always enjoyed the sensuality of Latin music. These guys have blended my two favourite genres of music brilliantly....I haven't been able to stop myself from dancing whenever I hear the first few bars of Cumbia Celtica.

Lulu's early music (recorded on the Decca label) was strongly influenced by R+B but when she moved to Columbia, Mickey Most recorded her as a mainstream pop singer, not always giving her ideal material to record. The low point (for me) is Boom bang a bang, the song that Lulu took to second place in the Eurovision song contest of 1969. Not only is this song here in its standard version, its also here in French and Italian versions. Well, it made number two in the UK (where it was her biggest solo hit) and no doubt proved successful in other European countries, so a lot of people love that song.
This compilation includes all of Lulu's hits between 1967 and 1969. This includes an unusual type of international double-sided hit. In ... Read More:

Truly a sensational cd! some of the tracks are issued in true stereophonic and are almost all from the late fifties. The party sing-along parts 1 and 2 truly brought a tear to my eye with sheer nostalgia! Whistling Rufus has never been handled better-Mr J Shand lived a long life, he was over 90 and what a great legacy he has left behind in these great recordings.

I, for one, DO doubt that this is better than 'Bedsitter Images', to which I would award one extra star. Not that this is a bad album, but I don't rate it anywhere near his best.
'Zero She Flies' is better than both, of course.
My main problem is the somewhat tedious title track .. frankly Al, I really didn't care that much. 'Swiss Cottage maneuvers' works much better, in a fraction of the space. But then, YMMV.

This is an outstanding CD. The fiddle and cello blend perfectly and the individual musicianship is just brilliant. The music has deep celtic traditional roots but sounds fresh and modern with classical overtones. My wife and I toured the Mull of Kintyre with the music totally capturing the beauty of the landscape. Buy it you won't be disappointed as music of this quality is rare.
