I'm writing this review simply because I don't see any reviews for any of Andy Stewart's works and there ought to be. It's hard to express why I like his stuff but I'll try.
I had the good luck to begin my interest in trad. songs as a teenager, by discovering Andy Stewart. If there is one word to express his gift in singing it is: FUN. I never met the man, but he reminds me of old uncle....who would show up at family occasions to become the life and soul of the party. You know the type, always had a full repetoire of jokes and stories and always managed to fill the room. That's Andy Stewart. I haven't listened to him for a while now but I still smile just thinking of his renditions.

A little gem of a cd; there are quite a few songs that I had never heard before which makes it a change from the normal Christmas carol compilations - though for all I know they may be Celtic (or Irish) standards.
The instrumentation, as one might expect from the title, includes harps, pipes whistles and guitars as well as strings and is very nicely done; as someone else has remarked the effect is otherworldly in parts, and in others I find it attractively 'ancient'.
I would thoroughly recommend this cd as something to listen to in it's own right or as background music whilst putting the tree up, which I suspect is what most people would want it for.
An absolute snip at the price too !!

Full of poignant, hummable tunes. They have never bettered this.
If you like catchy music buy it.
I am listening to Sleep the Clock Around now. Absolutely glorious. Especially when the synth solo bit kicks in, and then just when you think it can't get any better - bagpipes.
The current crop of British indie bands would sell body parts to write stuff like this. Belle and Sebastian would probably sell body parts to write more stuff like this.
A true classic.

This is excellent stuff. Tracks 2 to 6 are live session music without any audience noise. All these songs are in the album Shangri-La (five stars too) though, so get that one first as this is only an EP to complete your collection. The tunes are mellow and well done, great lyrics and amazing guitar parts.

Having waited patiently for this latest album from the boys, I cant say I'm dissapointed. Strong vocals mixed with rock and roll with a hint of blues goes to enhance the imaginative lyrics which the boys always produce. Classic songs like Scotlands Story and A Land Fit For Zero's top the bill in my opinion. The latter being one of the best Proclaimers recordings yet. An absolute necessity for my record collection, Persevere does not dissapoint the most critical fan.

What can I say about this album, it's really good and has some wonderful feel good tracks on it such as "Keep Talking, I'm Listening", "All The Love In The World" and "Could I Be More Blue".
This CD is living proof that Lulu is one of the UK's greatest female singers, is far more than a one hit wonder from the 60s and has a real talent for writing beautiful, uplifting songs!
