a wonderful album that is as captivating now as it was twenty years ago. tracy took 5 years to write the eleven tracks on this album and the depth of emotion and artistic beauty she created make for a timeless album can only be put into the category of classic.
Release Date February 25, 2007
Well-crafted songs, an expressive voice, wonderful harmonies, thoughtful lyrics and a lightness of touch on this beautiful collection of acoustic-based melodies. Wonderful.

Not as enduring or magical as the soundtrack for Jonathan Livingston Seagull, but then again this is a completely different type of film that he was composing for. JLS was more of a spiritual journey which was perfectly complimented in the music, whilst Jazz Singer is more of a commercial movie of a "Boy Done Good" scenario.
Personally, I preferred the songs on JLS, or should I say his genre of music, less anthemic, which probably isn't a word, and more beautifully crafted. However you can't argue with success, and there have been enough hits pulled off this album to back up any argument against it. Perhaps it's because I've heard "America" spouted from every radio station ever since that I probably should have written this review ... Read More:

Ever since this legendary band reformed in 1999 it has very much been with Neil Young at the steering wheel. He has chosen the backing bands and he has vetoed any official releases from their prevoius, highly succesful tours, in 2000 and '02.
This isn't a proper livealbum either, but the soundtrack to his film about the band's "Freedom Of Speech" tour in '06, promoting Neil's "Living With War" album.
Where the tour was a mix of new and old songs, and the 30+ songlist somewhat equally shared between the four great songwriters, here it's all Neil, with 9 out of 16 songs being from "Living..", while the other three have to share the remaining 7. That Neil is by far the most succesful through the years, commercially and mediawise, ... Read More:

Classic and timeless stuff, a collection of all the good old songs. The technical quality is higher than you would expect in view of the vintage of some of these recordings, so the transfer has ben really well done. For 6 quid, you can't go wrong.
Release Date April 09, 2007
I have been a Joan Armatrading fan for many years therefore I will give this album the benefit of the doubt and give it another go but it lost me around track 7.
Release Date April 02, 2007
This is a great album; as soon I listened to the first song I was hooked on this man, I listened to this cd for a month non-stop; his voice has something in it which I could never tire of hearing again and again; every song on here is a gem; Steamroller and Mexico spring to mind as two of the best on this cd; an utter joy to listen to anytime of the day.
Release Date October 01, 1999
Its hard to believe that this album comes from the same artist who performed on "Small Change"; this is more like it. In contradistinction to the desperately awful vocals on that album, Waits is here a mellow-voiced, yet bluesy edged vocalist entirely in tune with some fine piano work and the rest of the musicians, elements largely lost on the earlier album. The songs are finely crafted, elegantly phrased and perhaps ultimately timeless. Comparisons with later Joni Mitchell are not out of place here - think "Hejira" - and in places even Dylan and the Eagles more world weary stuff, but then they all draw from the same well, so perhaps it's not so surprising. Thoroughly recommended to almost anyone with a taste for the eclectic. So I look forward to more like ... Read More:

Aimee, Aimee, Aimee. What can I say? I have been a longtime fan of Aimee Mann. At her best she is a writer of beautiful songs charting the ups and downs (often the downs!) of love and life. However, something seems to have gone wrong with the current album, I'm sad to say.
Unlike many, I was a big fan of The Forgotten Arm, Mann's previous record. Dismissed by most critics purely on the grounds of its `concept', it was a set of strong songs and at least a couple good enough to be ranked amongst Aimee's best. Unfortunately, the magic is somehow missing on Smilers. The songs are pretty enough; it's just that after a number of listens, they steadfastly refuse to stand out; not one has lodged itself in my brain (except maybe Borrowing Time, ... Read More:
