I, like 95% of the people who have bought this album, bought it for Superman, and yes, it is a very good tune. However, the band made the great decision to have it as the lead in track of the album and get it out of the way, and then we get into the meat of the album. And it's as meaty as Meat Loaf's dinner. Goldfinger are a band who like to mix it up a bit. They havn't spent their whole career playing just ska, or just punk, or just metal. In fact, in the space of one album they traditionally cover all three mediums and more. John's vocals provide the right growl for grown man angst that is terribly believable, even more so when you realise the depths of his beliefs (see open your eyes for one of the messages he is trying to get across). ... Alright, this album is built on an incredible amount of hype hype. Two massive contemporary ska-punk names making a split album means expectations are through the roof and it has to be said that there are some outstanding songs on this CD but overall, it's neither of the bands' best work.
It's a steal at 40 minutes long with 15 tracks with Citizen Fish covering Choking Victim's "Money" and Leftover Crack's "Clear Channel" whilst Leftover Crack cover Citizen Fish's "Supermarket Song" and the Subhumans classic "Reason for Existence." It does have to be said I found Citizen Fish lacking in their covers. Usually I'd be the first to sing Dick and the gang's praises but after the astonishing release that was "Life Size" I'm a bit let down. ... Read More:

By 1976, rock music had become so saturated with pretentiousness that people started to react and a whole mass of styles developed. The British Ska revival was one, led by the Specials and Madness, adopting an authentic attitude and philosophy that echoed the ska bands of the 60s. This is encapsulated in Madness early albums; "One Step Beyond" (1979) included. Their style was sometimes accused of not being truly reflective of traditional Ska, and their lyrics lacked the sense of protest projected by some other bands. There may be some truth in this, but they seemed to do so with an attractive sense of innocence i.e., they said 'hey, this is just music, music to enjoy... there are no politics here!!! In terms of song writing, Madness were probably ... Read More:

This album hails from the post bradley nowels (even though samples of his voice are used in "sunny hours") SKA music scene of long beach. By this time the sound had created intrest from major labels (sublime had signed for one 1 week before bradley's death) as a result this album understandably sounds heavily polished when compared to "robin' the hood" & "40oz to freedom". I do like the songs on this CD but i also think it's quiet poppy and is obviously written with the intent to cater for the mainstream fan base the rest of sublime (bud and eric) knew that their names alone could pull in. As a result it dosn't sound like sublime, which wouldn't be a problem... if you didn't sound so similar.
all in all songs like "sunny hours" feat. ... Read More:
