This has got to be one of the best albums in my collection, there is such an amazing mix of generes which makes this, well i think so, one of the best ska punk albums ever released. The Caddies are without the best ska punk band one the scene at the minute. In my opinion these guys are only eclipsed by the imortal Sublime. R.I.P Brad

Disc one is the best disc of the set containing all of the singles of the original Specials from debut pot boiler `Gangsters' through to epoch number one band closer `Ghost Town'. The chronological order also gives all of the b-sides and the whole of `The Special AKA Live EP' which also hit the number one spot. Before reggae there was ska and rocksteady, indigenous musical forms that had evolved from the imported rhythm and blues and jazz styles prevalent in Jamaica from the fifties onwards. The Trojan Ska Box Set had gathered 50 representative tracks from the period up to 1966, including some very well known big sellers.

A number of the leading artists appear again on Vol. 2: Don Drummond, Lee Perry, Lord Tanamo, Baba Brooks, the Skatalites, Owen Gray, Roland Alphonso, Tommy McCook, Desmond Dekker, Justin Hinds and the Dominoes, the Maytals, Lyn Taitt and others, with well known and less well known examples of their art, including some appearing on CD for the first time.

This Album has become the benchmark for third wave Ska. Some people complain it to be a profiteering effort but for those who think that, wouldn't you rather give the band money then the record company? The reason Streetlight re-made this classic Catch 22 album (3 members of streetlight come from catch 22) was because the original was to be re-released by Victory with "bonus content", usually comprising of a live track and random interviews. (Oh Hurray!)
Tomas and the group decided it would be better, both for the fans of the album and fans of streetlight to take the original and give it a lick of new paint. In my opinion this album is far superior to it's original counterpart. The mixing has been correctly followed through leaving all parts ... Read More:
