At last - a new album from take 6!! No surprises here - Take 6 are THE band! As usual tight harmonies, fantastic lead vocals and great songs. Unlike other Take 6 albums, however, this one is a collection of great classics such as Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" and Stevie's "Love's in Need" instead of more original cuts, but it's still all delivered in Take 6's unique style. A must have for any decent Take 6 fan - but what makes this stand out as a serious project worthy of parting with cash, is the production courtesy of Marcus Miller. One couldn't really go wrong with this collaboration and as you would expect, the album is peppered with Marcus Miller's bass licks and his trademark bass clarinet. Sheer ... Read More:

I first heard Earl Klugh (and this particular album) on tape when I was growing up (in the 80s some time) and listened to it over and over... the tape must have gone astray and I forgot about Earl Klugh for a time. I have just listened to a few snippets of this and memories have come flooding back of his amazing music.

Mr Jordan's second venture and it is a lot more funky than his first album (The antidote). The first track 'Season for change' sets high expectations of the album. The next few tracks certainly excite and then comes the well known `The Jackal'. After that the album seems to trail off a touch. I became a big fan of Ronny Jordan after his first album and this one is very good. I have even had the pleasure of seeing him live. This album gets four stars because it starts off amazingly well and then looses its edge towards the end.

Worth the money alone for "Earth Tones" which has, quite simply, one of the most insidious jazz riffs ever conceived - up there with Horace Silver's "Song To My Father", Miles Davis' "So What" and Lee Morgan's "Sidewinder". So good that what goes on throughout the rest of the track is totally subservient to it... an anticipatory, often excellent and sometimes rambling build-up that keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting until "that riff" re-appears... brilliant!.
Good enough on its own, but backed up by three excellent, albeit less exploratory, mid 70's jazz-funk tracks with equally insidious riffs and beautifully laid-back playing. Don't ask me or my children why... a generation different in musical experience and a world apart in ... Read More:

I've had the cassette version of this since I was a little girl (many years ago) and I still listen to it and love it as much now as I did then. I am so pleased to have found this on CD especially as my old stereo with cassette is about to die.
George has a great voice, easy to listen to tracks and timeless tunes which get you singing along in no time. I would say that this is the best of anything he has done.
There are a couple of other songs that I like, well knows ones that would be great on here too, but I'd chose this over any other of his albums.

If you're a Luther fan (like me) you'll have noticed this album already. At first I thought it was just another compilation of some of his best love songs, but on closer inspection it is actually the 'smooth-jazz' version.
When I say 'smooth-jazz' what I actually mean is 'muzak'. Yes, you too can own the elevator versions of some of Luther's finest. Don't get me wrong, I like smooth jazz, but these are basic cover versions (mostly without vocals other than background karaoke-style backing) and lack anything like the real depth of the originals.
Particularly annoying is Dance With My Father, a sad song that should send a shiver down your spine - but this version is poor, warm and sadly lacking in any emotion (except tedium, ... Read More:

This was my introduction to Jazz and it does not disappoint. I have been listening to this album for the last 15 years (it came out in 1992) and it still pleases. From the cool 'Get to Grips' to the breezy 'After Hours'. It's an album for a lazy Sunday or an after-hours chill out and everything in between. This CD has brought immense pleasure. I can full heartedly recommend this album.
