I bought this CD for the music on it by Dave Grusin and in that respect I wasn't disapointed. From the opening theme to How could you lose me? (the end title) his piano driven music is superb, mixing in elements of jazz and blues with more conventional soundtrack music. The other tracks on the disc are not really to my tastes and I would have preferred more Dave Grusin music but that said it is a soundtrack album. So 5 stars for the Grusin music but only 3 overall ...

This cd is full of music that is really fun to play. My friends and I transcribed a couple of the songs, and have had success performing them. My two favorite songs are definatly "whatever you want" and the last one on the record... I'm not sure what it's called, but it's awesome... dixieland feel.
anywhozzles, I would def recommend this cd to anyone who's into the funk scene :P

A Jazz covers version of Rolling Stones songs sounds like it would fall between two stools, neither satisfying Stones nor jazz fans. This album does have the advantage of all but Jagger, of the existing Stones, appearing somewhere on it, Charlie Watts on more tracks than the rest. Ries also has the advantage and in is given the justification for recording this album by virtue of having played on a couple of Stones tours.
As you would expect from this sort of venture some songs work better than others but there are way more hits than misses, Street Fighting Man has some decent sax and piano break in the middle and if you are a fan of the small organ combo style of jazz then the first version of Honky Tonk Women is a real treat.
