This is such a beautiful cd. Do not hesitate to buy this one. My two favourite tracks are Cinema Pardiso and Time to say Goodbye which I feel has to to be the best version of this piece I have ever heard.

This is not the purple man as such, but 4 instrumental tracks from a genius. The musicianship is top drawer. If you like lots of smooth sax, awesome drumming and lovely piano hooks, then you will like this. Its a bit Marcus Miller in places, which is probably why I like it. Some funk, smooth acid jazz and definately not over produced. It really shows how clever our man is, and also how he is not afraid to release stuff that is not widely appealing. How he can write it, let alone record it in one day is beyond me. More please Sir.

This CD is a mixed bag of JB's earlier recordings. Some nice grooves and ballads, but definitely locked into the 80's era of synth-pop. Enjoyable.

Give Me the Night

I don't have much time for music that goes under the banner of disco, soul, etc., but occasionally those genres throw up something that I can't ignore. I've always had a liking for the title track of this album and, knowing that Benson is a renowned jazz performer and that he has some of the best assistance possible here, I took a chance. What a delight. Benson's jazz background shows up regularly, but 'Give Me The Night' is no less accessible an album. It has strong songs, such as 'Star Of The Story', great grooves and classy arrangements, courtesy of Quincy Jones. Perhaps 'Love X Love' is a touch too mild for an opening track, but 'Off Broadway' certainly kicks off. I'm not so sure Benson did anything as good as this 1980 album again. Later songs ...
