A rather different sound to their more instrumental efforts earlier in the 70's. Many pop anthems here, including Ladies Night and Celebration. Go on, strut your funky stuff !!!
Release Date October 07, 1996
I have a couple of Simply Red's CD's and so it's kind of easy to buy this "best of". It is one of my all-time favourites, and as a collection it can provide listening music, dance music, and quality background music all on the same disc. Let me just name the tracks I really like: "Holding Back The Years", great dancing music with "Money's Too Tight to Mention", "A New Flame", "You've Got It", "If You Don't Know Me By Now", "Stars", and "For Your Babies". Come on - 7 top tracks out of 15 - this just cries out to be one of my top-10 CD's.

In my opinion this is the first time a collection has been released on Dusty that truly covers her career properly. I may be biased! All of the US and UK hits from the sixties in their original Mono mixes as well as a healthy dose of her Atlantic soul period with all the comeback hits at the end. This is the one to get whether your new to Dusty or even if you think you have everything. No fan should be without this one.

......came Isaac Hayes. A four track album ? In 1969 ? You've got to be kidding, right ? No Sir. Isaac Hayes took the orchestration and elongation of soul music to the nth degree with this ground-breaking release. Whether or not you find the four abnormally-extended workouts to your own personal taste or not, you simply have to admire the artist's willingness to push back the boundaries of contemporary popular music and the sheer chutzpah of it all.
The opener, "Walk On By" is a magnificent interpretation of the track made famous by Dionne Warwick in anyone's book. Lushly and lasciviously orchestrated it has so many peaks it leaves you breathless, despite its essential laid back groove. The contender for the longest track name ever is next, ... Read More:

A remarkable compilation from James Brown of unstoppable heavy funk classics and unreleased gems. Originally released in 1986 to capture the ears of the sampling generation, this compliation has now been nicely expanded making it even more essential than ever. Covering a period from late '69 to the early 70's, it is JB at the height of his considerable funk powers - suddenly the godfather grew from a diminutive 5'6" to seemingly become a kind of colossus funk godzilla, stamping his grooves over cities and leaving an indelible influence in his wake.
He was able to capitalise on the formation of a new band, the J.B.'s, consisting of both young and experienced musicians. For perhaps the first time in his career, JB took influence from the young members ... Read More:

Simply The Best Of Tina Turner... and it is just that. Because although it contains many of the best hits, it omits many loved and essential songs, but it picks the best, intertwines it with the new and is almost full as it contain 18 tracks. So we get some of the very early, to the very latest new songs for the compilation.
The cover has an iconic image of Tina, the booklet has a few nice photos and the back page features a four album Discography. The songs themselves are great, although the 90's Version of `Nutbush City Limits' is questionable, definitely not a patch on the original or the 1993 Soundtrack Version which is on a par with the original. It brings together a few songs previously not available on any Tina albums such as `It Takes Two' A Duet With Rod ... Read More:

Whilst his other solo recordings are never less than excellent, this is probably the best of the lot. His distinctive vocals perfectly complement each track - and there 'aint a dud track here.
For anyone wanting to start a Winwood collection, this is the one to start with.
Release Date January 19, 1987
Arc of a diver was Steve Winwood's second solo offering after his eponmynous debut. Moving well away from his earlier work with Traffic, Blind Faith and the Spencer Davis Group, Arc of a Diver has a very early 80's feel to it, with 'electronics' in abundance, though its no less impressive because of that. The album kicks off with a real tour de force "While you see a chance" is a rousing number that was the obvious single from the album. In a sense its almost a 1980's form of gimme some lovin...catchy melody, memorable lyrics and very effective use of keyboards (indeed, Winwood plays virtually all the instruments himself on this album). Second hand woman and the title track Arc of a Diver are fairly mediocre, but "slowdown sundown" and "Dust" though in a ... Read More:

At the time of recording this album Michael Jackson was a very angry man, the Chandler case had been going on and other people in authority were trying their best to ruin him. This was the biggest selling black artist of all time and he was living in Neverland Ranch in a purely white community, people were jealous and wanted his musical career finished.
This album was Michael's answer to them.
The songs Scream, They don't care about us, Stranger in Moscow, This time around, D.S, Money, Childhood, Tabloid Junkie and 2bad all relate to Michael's life at that time, which is why i've given this album 5 stars, this isn't his best album by a long shot but it is still a fantastic and very personal album and the people who give this a low score should sit back with headphones on and ...
