I saw the film and really liked it, so I bought this. Unfortunately, on this version of the CD all of Jennifer Hudson's powerful songs are 'highlight' versions, so not the ones used in the film...The CD isn't bad, but it wasn't what I wanted...I am going to try the deluxe version.

Up until a couple of years ago I had the leighman's knowledge of Van Morrison's work and assumed Brown Eyed Girl was his peak and was thus uninterested in finding out more. It was the introduction of Martin Scorsese's The Last Waltz by the Band that made me an instant fan. In my opininion, his performance at that concert was easily the best of the film and one of the best ever recorded.

I bought the album purely for love of the song "Caravan" which he banged out on the Last Waltz with unbelievable soul. I was blown away by the range of vocals produced by the Irishman, from the assured "And It Stoned Me", to the tender and vulnerable "Crazy Love", to the soulful "Caravan". Boundry busting Gilles girates his Technic for smiley faces...

CD1 foreward thinking house mix, starting out all soulful and vocal, then moving into his more trademark afro sound (with 4/4 this time though), then into jazzy house and deep techno. He gives the middle finger to his dissers that say he can't mix. Ok he's no Louie Vega or Sasha but he does a solid mix here.

CD2 his usual kinda black music gear. Very uplifting though 'think Jackie Brown' soul, jazz, b-boy.

CD3 unmixed exclusive gems, a good variety of house grooves for all you budding jocks out there. Very different and very fresh.

Highly recommended.

Contains all the Hits from this wonderfullt innovative band. They really did inspire the look of people such as Michael Jackson (Leee John in particular with his wonderful flamboyant style). For originality and flair that shaped a generation, in my view Imagination are right up there with Adam and the Ants and Spandau Ballet. They were also around at a time when such artists as Shannon (remember "Let The Music Play"?) and Fonda Rae. Thgis is a definite "must have" for anyone with a half-de4cent 80s collection!!

I'm actually listening to this album as I write my review to get some inspiration! MJ's on the music industry cannot be acknowledged as anything else but massive! He's been in the public eye since the 1960's so there's no doubting his brilliance. His private life is another subject alltogether but, that aside, the man is a pop genius who has a huge influence in a variety of musical styles. I'm not a huge MJ fan but I am able to see the mastery of his songs and the impact they have had on his fans. "Number ones" is an 18 track compilation of his greatest hits and I quite agree with the album title...they are number ones - each song in it's own way has been brilliant! It's taken some time since seeing her for the first time on Jules Holland's 'Later' last year for me to get round to buying this album.

My memory of that show is encapsulated in her rendition of
album opener 'Like A Star'; with only a guitarist for accompaniment it
was clear that Miss Bailey Rae was a significant new talent to contend with.

It is refreshing to find a performer who does not have to rely on
technology or novelty to impress. Her voice is warm and sure; her tone
and phrasing seductive; her writing skills strong and unpretentious.
