Excellent compilation of Craig Armstrongs film music.
Armstrong truly is a rare talent in film music scoring - these days, each composer whose name you might recognise has their own tricks that crop up time and again. Hans Zimmer has the 'soulful voice as instrument and Wagnerian epic themes', Jerry Goldsmith has the 'lush string sound with simple effective meolodies', Vangelis has the epic soaring themes market cornered...

Peter Gabriel worked for three years on this soundtrack for Scorcese's film "The Last Temptation Of Christ"-it was worth it.This is many people's introduction to world music(Armenian bagpipers to Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn)and it complements the film perfectly.
One of the best soundtracks ever-IMHO only rivalled by Barbieri's score for "Last Tango In Paris".I would advise anyone new to "Passion" to watch "Last Temptation Of Christ" first,to see and hear how the music works within the film.

Having seen the show live and falling instantly in love with it I could not wait to buy the Ultimate DVD. Although the DVD was different to the live show I had seen it is still great and gave me access to great stars such as Elaine Page, Sir John Mills and Jason Gardner to name a few. So it was with eager anticipation that I ordered the soundtrack for me and my daughters to listen to in the car. We expected the soundtracks to be the same as our much loved show and DVD - THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Some of the soundtracks are sung by other people and the standard is no where near the standard recieved on the DVD - the only exception being Memories by Elaine Page. After the amazing reviews this book has received I was really excited to start reading it and it started off really good. However, I found Lyra a very unconvincing character and not particularly likeable and it was this character that really finished my reading of the book. I gave up about fifty pages before the end as really life is too short to waste on such a boring book.

I was surprised when I first listened to this tape. I was expecting a traditional Agatha Christie type format in the manner I was used to hearing. The three stories have been very much updated in terms of the setting of the stories and the language and general setting of the plots. This does not in any way detract from the enjoyment, rather it enhances the quality of the tales, indicating that the original format transfers very easily to a more up to date setting. The acting in all the stories is excellent, and the plots take a very interesting and unexpected turn, particularly towards the end, which is of course what one would expect from the author. When i first saw the movie, i fell in love, not with Hugh or Julia's lines but, with the film's fantastic music.
This collection of songs has become my favorite ever since and i even danced "She" by Elvis Costelo in my wedding reception.
I strongly recommend it

The soundtrack of Forrest Gump certainly lives up to the reputation of the fantastic film which is also blessed with several Oscars. All the classic rock from the 1950s through the hippy 70s and on to the 80s is brought to life through a dual-cd album also featuring the soundtrack to the movie. Truly the greatest collection of songs ever to be burned onto the shiny discs. A must buy for the fans of every type of music!

Jesus Christ Superstar

This is a reasonably good recording of Superstar, but I find it less musically convincing than the 1973 movie soundtrack version. The main difference is that the orchestrations here are firmly based on musical theatre genre styles, while the 1973 recording seems to have more musical inventiveness and energy. The vocal performances are generally good but, with the exception of Steve Balsamo's Jesus, not exceptional.
Buy this second. Buy the movie soundtrack first.
