I was pleasantly surprised to find myself attracted to the soundtrack of this film, since its subtle weave does not announce itself with a blaze of trumpets. Rather, its gentle rocking was clearly in tune with the film, and perfectly matched the pinks and blues of the dreamy land- and soundscape unravelling on-screen.

I thought initially that I was listening to synthesised sounds, but it was another pleasure to find that a full symphonic orchestra was called upon to create these fantastic sounds. So, we have the full-orchestral accompaniment credited on the sleeve, from violins to tuba. There is some electronic input into the matrix, especially apparent in track 4, 'Will She Come Back'.

This audio CD book, alongside with other Naxos educational CDs for children, is absolutely fantastic. It contains loads of information, so adults interest is guaranteed as well as children's fascination. It's a must for curious little minds. Presented in an easy listening format, it educates and enterntains at the same time. Boring car journeys became a highly enjoyable and educational experiences in our family since Naxos CDs were purchased. Being non-fiction, they can be listened to over and over again, offering a chance for the child to remember and/or understand more details each time.

I think the title ive chosen to head my review says it all.Xanadu the album(ELOs contributions only)is more of what we've come to expect from the greatest band of all time.The other songs on the album vary in quality between not bad and down right awful.DO NOT!!!! buy this album then think to yourself"He's full of it,these songs are great,im buying the film"cos this atitude will only leave you however many pounds,dollars whatever lighter in the pocket and have taken up 90 minutes of you.re life you'll never get back.so In conclusion get the album,dont follow this up by seeing the movie.

The first ever BBC Radiophonic Workshop LP ("BBC Radiophonic Music") featured three composers -- Delia Derbyshire, David Cain and John Baker. Over the last 10 years Delia's become almost famous what with plays on her life and all but the other two composers seem to have short shrift.

No longer, this lovely album features a slew of John Baker's compositions, some entirely electronic and some using the radiophonic bass he favoured as a basis for "traditional" indtruments. There's a fine sense of melody underpinning every track, you'll find many tunes to enjoy ("Suivez la Piste", "Au Printemps" etc). There's even odd vocal pieces.

Having seen the original show with Jonathan Pryce and Lea Salonga, I also saw it a year later when the understudy was playing Kim and was not disappointed. All those years ago I brought my 5 year old up with the soundtrack and always promised her that if it came back to the stage I would take her. Now she is 15 and I was able to keep my promise at the Milton Keynes venue of the current tour and she was absolutely blown away. Jonathan Pryce was fab as the engineer in the original show, and I'm glad I saw him in that part, but the current cast, although doing a variation of the original is certainly not a disappointment. My daughter Hannah is desperate to see it again, with her friends, and the only down side is it is realistically not close enough to go again. ... Read More:

This is the revived version of the classic 'Oliver' musical that was based on 'Oliver Twist' by Dickens. It is a triumph! I absolutely love it! With music that lifts you up and stirs the emotions. We are invited to follow Oliver, a small timid orphan, on his journey in search of love. Along the way we meet such wonderful characters as Fagan (played by Jonathan Price), the artful dodger, Nancy(played by Sally Dexter) and the terrifying Bill Sykes (played by the wonderful Miles Anderson). It is truley a heart warming story that is told so beautifully as only music could! It is like one of those films that you can watch over and over again - each time you listn to it you find something new and wonderful! If you're looking for any CD's with movie music, this would be my first, and only, stop. There's something for everyone, and although stuff like the Indiana Jones theme is missing, and the opera CD (Disc 5) is a little week, the likes of "Ride of the Valkiryies" and "Ode to Joy" is just timeles, and best of all, immortalised by the films they're featured in, the compliment of all compliments to these films. It's very cheap to, I would highly recommend this.

This shows a much darker, more foreboding side to TD's work of the period. It's interesting to hear shorter pieces too, which works well for me. The style is very much in keeping with "Stratosfear" and also "Encore" and, listening to it again, I think it's rather better than both......

I'd also like to echo the question What of the "other" 45 minutes they recorded for this film? Is it worth releasing? Even if it's more of the same, or the existing tracks expanded I'd buy it...

Another classic!
