It's good to see the renewed interest in Neil Diamond's work. Although most people know him via his hits during the 60s, 70s and early 80s, this album is completely different from most of his other recordings.
I heard this album the first time a few years after its release and despite a young age got hooked on it. It has a majestic feel all over, as if it flew over the musical landscape of its period, and probably would do the same even if being released today. One could claim that it gave signals of the new age sound that later developed. In other words, it has aged remarkably well.
Anyone who has any of his compilations and actually listens to them should not let this Jonathan Livingston pass them by. Even ... Read More:

I am a sucker for Soundtracks. I own atleast 20. This is, in all honesty, the best one. As many others have said, "Little Green Bag" and "Stuck in the Middle With You" are the highlights. However, the ones that are less admired ("Fool for Love" and "Magic Carpet Ride") are still amazing tracks. Nothing on this track will you ever fast-forward through because you are not in the mood. A word of advice however: If you aren't into old rock music, do not buy this! It is not modern music! If however, you are a fan of the film and enjoyed the music, buy this now!

I was very disapointed with this CD. The title Sympony lead me to believe it would be a classical CD-well as classical as Sarah can be. We all know she isn't an opera singer but more stage and pop. I have to admit I really enjoyed her Classics CD as I do feel Sarah can sing although I didnt enjoy this CD at all. The music is much more mixed and there is no theme to it. If you are intrested in buying a Sarah CD buy Classics instead.

I'm giving this CD 5 stars as it is an excellent time capsule, apart from Will You there probably isn't another song in here that would be a hit today but is an excellent example of poppy punk/new wave music from 1980. I remember seeing the film in the mid 80's and buying the album the very next day, loved it and still do today. For 3 pounds you can't go wrong (the sax solo on Will You is worth that on its own)
It's a shame that there is no current DVD of the film as it creates a good feel for the environment in which this album was written. There is an angst in the more punky songs like Big Brother and Blackman which for me make these stand out tracks and the change of tempo in Who Needs It still excites me 20 years on as the song winds itself ... This is certainly the most amazing soundtrack that Disney has produced, proven by the fact that it has won awards for its brilliance. The music is absolutely mind-blowing, and there is something there to touch every emotion, from the dramatic "Circle of Life," to the beautiful heart-wrenching "Can You Feel The Love Tonight," the fun, bouncy "I Just Can't Wait to be King" and "Hakuna Matata," and of course there's no forgetting the dark "Be Prepared." There is, of course, the wacky "Morning Report" which, despite being very good in its own right, does not match up to the others, it being an additional song for the Special Addition. Of course, it is not only the Elton John/Tim Rice songs which make up the brilliance of this soundtrack. Hans Zimmer's scores, mixed ... Read More:

One of the best films I've ever seen. I first caught up with it late one night in the 90's and have been itching to watch it gain ever since. I found the content realistic and with little censorship made me face up to what really went on in the 1800's rather than being pampered with the traditional Hollywood take on events.

If you're reading this review and thinking about buying this album stop reading this review and get your charge card out. This is, bar none, the best compilation album I've ever come across. I'm shamed to admit I was unfamiliar with many of the tracks and artists until I saw the film. In hindsight I now understand the magnitude of the gaping whole this was in the development of my muscial appreciation. A vista of 70's soul-funk really opened up for me post-Jackie-Brown.

On the one hand, I am strangely drawn to the carefree and rather shallow exuberance of 'Grease', and it's songs, but on the other, I find it completely repellent.
Because 'Grease' and it's accompanying soundtrack fail to chart the lows that a person's teenage years can provide. Somewhat accurately, it charts the lust and the obsession with sex that tends to characterise most teenage behaviour, but this film has nothing for the misfits and the individuals who have never been a part of the popular crowd.
In essence, 'Grease' and it's accompanying soundtrack are a blatant nod to conformity, and the message is simple: conform, be part of a gang, be sex-obsessed, be shallow.
For example, there is the unbearable 'Summer Nights', a ridiculous summing ... Read More:
