Annihillator have constantly remained a top-notch thrash metal band druing the years, never losing their pure thrash metal sound (ever). After the return (on the previous album) of Original singer Randy rampage, the band decided to get ANOTHER new singer: this time somebody whose name i cant remember. but what i do remember is that he is one heck of a singer.
So what kind of thrash metal is it? is it melodic thrash? well, yes it is, it is not exactly the most melodic kind of thrash (that would belong to anthrax and Death angel), but it is melodic, and sometimes catchy, but the new singers vocie gives it a good kind of aggression which makes it feel brutal as well as melodic, something that Has only ever been achieved (in my opinion) ... ...And its called "Hell Awaits", lasts 37 minutes and 12 seconds and was the moment Slayer found their own unique sound with out having to rely on any NWOBHM or early thrash fore-runners to inspire them to write tunes. It leaves show No Mercy behind, with is lighter riffs and anthemic lyrics, and just blasts out dark noise of ill intent. The production is a bit poor like just about everyone agrees, and it could have had a better mix (epsecially the drums, which if you turn it up loud enough, are bloody awesome !!) Slayer are obviously famous for (amongst other things) Reign in Blood. The Daddy of Thrash metal, and one of the most inspiring records in the death metal fraternity. Hell Awaits is like the trailer, the "warm up gig" for that ... Read More:

This album contains most of Death's best songs. The production value could have been a little better, however, the music and musicianship more than make up for it. If you're not familiar with Death, shame on you, they are one of the best bands ever, cetainly within the metal genre. If you're just getting into Death this is a good starting point, and it is a great addition to any Death, or metal, fan's collection.
These guys - even considering a few personnel changes - were at the top of the thrash-metal heap and have been credited with creating the subgenre "Death Metal." Personally, I do prefer the pristine studio recordings that capture all of the pounding, razor-sharp complexities in these songs, but the "raw" sound is still pretty freakin' great. ... Read More:

The above review is total nonsense...this cd has some of the coolest riffs that King has done in ages. The story in precise and needs to be really understood - So buy Abigail 1st as that is unreal.
Production is more clinical than raw/heavy and has a lot going on in the background, so sacrifices have to be made somewhere. Quality sound is required for all the guitar weaving and varius keyboard effects, or it would just sound mushed up.

The transitional album for Voivod: with `Killing Technology' the band moved away from the noisy, chaotic thrash of their first two albums and began to expand their sound, tip-toeing into more prog territory and truly flexing their impressive musical muscles. `Killing Tech.' also heralded the start of Voivod's most impressive and successful period - this and the subsequent three albums are undoubtedly their finest.
The band still possess the raw and aggressive thrash tendencies of their early releases and vocalist Snake continues to scream his lyrics a little too often, but there's plenty of ambition in the lengthier arrangements and more complex time changes. Highpoints are hard to find as the album works best if it's listened to in one sitting, but `Ravenous ... Read More:
