I'll be honest with you: I still believe that it would have been very interesting, compositionally, to hear what John Williams would have done had he had the opportunity to score all of the Harry Potter films. It may be that he'll return for the 6th or the 7th film, or both; but with that said, the fact remains that despite my initial misgivings and apprehensions, Patrick Doyle's score for The Goblet of Fire and Nicholas Hooper's work on The Order of the Phoenix are both excellent in their own right.
I tend not to notice or remember a film's music until my second or third viewing, and in the case of The Order of the Phoenix, I have not fully appreciated it until hearing it all on CD. In one word, I would describe the score as: `understated', ... Read More:

Now I'll admit that I miss John Williams doing the soundtracks... I found his music a lot more playful and somehow just more fitting... having said that I do really like this CD! The stuff by the Wyrd Sisters (Jarvis Cocker et al) is just silly, it seemed slightly out of place in the film, but sits well as a few stand alone tracks on the CD... and Hippogriff is exceptionally catchy! I like the music introducing the quidditch teams as well, and Rita Skeeter is an interesting track! If you've seen the film then the music is very evocative, reminding you of what you've seen... if you haven't seen the film I wouldn't recommend the CD!

Okay, there are a few reviews here which are quite long and cover every detail. I think one was actually longer than one of the books. However, I'm not going to do that.
I received this set today and have played all the CDs twice. Helps to have a CD system which has at least a three CD capacity, that way it's seamless. The music is amazing. I already knew this having seen the film. However, to hear it all, every note, without dialogue, is something else.
I have the one disc OST CD, (not leather bound) and this set won't replace it. I'm glad I have both. This set for when I have time, the single when I don't. The quality of sound is excellent, the music superb and while some may have issues with the packaging, I think it looks great.
If the original 2CD `The Only Classical Album You'll Ever Need' was true to its claim, then surely there'd be no need for this volume 2 would there? Never mind, all good things deserve a sequel I guess.
This follow up 2CD release matches the original in that the budget price doesn't reflect the quality, for the soloists, orchestras, conductors and the recordings themselves ensure it is a good quality selection of mostly familiar music from the classical music repertoire.
The choices this time offer a slightly more varied repertoire than the opera-biased original, for example there are film soundtracks such as `The Mission' (Ennio Morricone), `Lord of the Rings (Howard Shore), `The Deerhunter' (Stanley Myers) and `2001 : A Space Odyssey' (Richard ... Read More:

I got this CD for my boyfriend for Christmas last year, and he absolutely loves it!
Both of us are Tim Burton and "Nightmare Before Christmas" fans, so of course it wasn't long before I borrowed it for myself.
The first disc is basically the original soundtrack, so if you already have the standard version then you'll already know what tracks are there and how great it is to listen to. A wonderful addition is that the soundtrack has actually been re-mastered, so the music is clearer, and still a delight to hear.
The second disc is where it gets interesting. The first four tracks are songs from the delightful movie performed by well known artists. Here's the basic rundown.
"This is Halloween", performed by Marilyn Manson: he really does good impersonations ... Read More:

Thes original recordings of the time give a real insight into the music hall stars of the war. The songs telling young boys to go and die in the trenches send shivers down your spine. The joy in the 1918 recordings make you feel the relief of Peace at last, and the propaganda speeches by a twenty year old boy soon to die is chilling. Really not to be missed - a piece of history.

The story of the American Civil War had never been so well covered until Ken Burns undertook his monumental undertaking a few years ago. The music CD covers all the main musical themes which accompanied the series and make no mistake, its wonderful! What I like about it is the simple melodies taken from the well know folk songs which existed at the time. The highlight is of course is Ashoken Farewell. Its haunting. If you saw the series and enjoyed it like I did, then this CD is a great buy.

I remember the moment back in 2001 when one of my friends thrust Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone into my hands and ordered me to read. I'd already been vaguely curious about the series before, what with all the hype surrounding Goblet of Fire, which had been released the previous year. The minute the book was put into my hands during a lunch break at college, I began to read. After that, I couldn't put it down. My form tutor rolled his eyes when he caught a glimpse of what I was reading - obviously he'd failed to be driven into all the hype surrounding Harry Potter - but I ignored his sniggering and carried on, and i'm very glad I did!
I was 17 when I started reading the books, around the same age as Harry was by the end of the series. His experiences in this book brought back ... Read More:

John Williams manages to keep building on a ever growing sucess! His latest addition to the chain of hit scores sits high as one of his best works to date. The soundtrack complements the film excellently, and stands just as greatly on its own.
The most rewarding track on the CD is Zam The Assasin and The Chase Through Coruscant. For all eleven minutes the tension is held and keeps building through William's trademark skill, dissonace. The inclusion of classic 'chase music' instruments like the bongo drums, various other percussion and an electric guitar, shows his ability to bring old fashioned styles into his own. Look back at Lalo Schifrin's work, a master of the funky chase music of the 60's and 70's. Williams' experimentation with these instruments has given us on of the best pieces of ... Read More:
