Shhh...I've never told anyone this before but...I really love this album. It's partly due to nostalgia; as a child of the 90s this was everywhere, school discos, friends' parties, barbecues, radio, blasting out of every other car, etc etc. When punk and the Sex Pistols burst onto my musical landscape, this, along with Britney Spears etc, was thrown out- or rather moved downstairs onto my parents' cd rack- but listening back to it now I grudgingly admit that I quite enjoy it in a cheesy kind of way (thankfully Britney has long since left my household). It's not country music (cue cries of "sell-out" and 1-star reviews from outraged country music fans)- just great commercial, radio-friendly pop (played mostly by real people on real instruments ... I'm 19, and I love Don Williams. I admit that I didn't hear of him until a few months ago, please don't hate me. I was sitting in ront of the computer in our living room, when I heard some really nice music coming from the kitchen where my mum was. I really like country music, especially Marty Robbins, Dolly Parton, and Lonestar, and I asked her who it was. She replied Don Williams, I went back to the computer, logged on the internet and bought this CD, and his love sogns cd, which really was a comfort when I was going through a bad patch after moving to university. I really love this album. Emmyloyu has a great voice! She is one of the best female singers ever! The songs "Bluebird Wine", "Sleepless Nights", and "Boulder to Birmingham" are so beautiful and good! This is a 70's classic!

Has much has i Like Dolly Parton, I do wonder how many more times are her managers going to release her Greatest Hits & Best Of Albums.
I think she should come back and do something New!!

I brought Dolly Partons Greatest Hits back in 1999 The Album i have is a 2x Disc version With the same songs and same listings in the exact same track listing order has these 2 seperate Albums!! Why it has been Re-released has two seperate Volumes is beyond me, Especially when the version i have is still avalible to buy.

I have given this a 4 Star if it was a New greatest hits it would have got a 5 Star, However it isn't. And plus it's not Dolly's thought i blame the record company!!! :-)

I just felt that I had to write a review.

We went to see Dolly last night at the O2 arena and wow ... what a show.

Over 2hrs she played 6 of the tracks above as well as her classic's Islands in the Sream, Jolene, 9 to 5, Coat of many colurs, Why'd you come in here looking like that etc.

I've seen a few concerts in my 25 years but that by far was the best (I think that with no warm up act and the seats we had helped!!)

Buy the cd and then watch the 'Euro 08' tour DVD when its released.

44 years since her debut Loretta Lynn has written and performed some of country music's best songs ever in the entire genre. Loretta has always stuck to the kind of music she loves to write and perform and has never tried to be a Dolly Parton type person trying to act or be a pop princess. Her music has always been as country as dirt and here in her latest album she adds rock to the album and keeping it country. Critics compared this to the later work of Johnny Cash and made people think twice about country music. Appealling to rock, country and indie audiences it's no surprise the album did well. Before you jump in and buy, have a look at 'The Essential Johnny Cash' as the track listing on this 2002 'Man In Black: TVBO' collection is more similar to that CD than it is to the CD of the title 'Man In Black: TVBO' issued in 2001 (probably the U.S. version).

This 2002 'Man In Black: TVBO' one has four more tracks than 'Essential', and differs towards the end between the two 'Man In Black: TVBO' collections. This latter part is not such a problem in my view as the earlier stuff is more essential listening.

Unfortunately, this UK version of 'Man In Black: TVBO' from 2002 has the bleeped version of A Boy Named Sue, as detailed in 'The Essential Johnny Cash' reviews.

when reviewing a compilation of material by the most successful artist of all time,(over one billion records sold) it seems that it is easy to miss the point. dont try and compare this fantastic album with any other by mr. presley or any other artist. just try to listen to each and every song, every vocally perfect moment, every note delivered with a passion that no-one before or after, has or will get anywhere near.
if you are new to his work then you should buy this cd, but dont try and categorise it like so many who call themselves "elvis experts" who over analyse what is the best music ever made. enjoy it. thats what elvis would have wanted you to do.
