This is a superb collection of raw, moody, early Rock & Roll at its best. Cliff in 1958 was hard, mean, moody, ; he was greasy, murky, crude. He and the Shadows (originally called the Drifters); rocked; smoked; smarted.
CD 1: (1958-1959):
Cliff cuts into his first (later flipped) A-side, "Schoolboy Crush"; which, despite immature lyrics, sounds mature, strong and enticing. He tears into the hard, throaty chorus of "High Class Baby. The Drifters/Shadows are exhilarating. Next, Cliff rips with authority and power into "My Feet Hit The Ground" and a storming cover of "Don't Bug Me Baby". This album is one of my all time favourites. I used to play the LP and when it wore out I bought the CD. It captures the immense power and emotion of Barbra's voice beautifully. There are many Streisand CDs available, but for me, this particular CD stands out because like many great albums, it has a momentum which starts from the first note of the first track and continues right through till the last track. It almost forces you to listen through until the end, flowing from track to track. Truly awesome.

This album is one of my all time favourites. I used to play the LP and when it wore out I bought the CD. It captures the immense power and emotion of Barbra's voice beautifully. There are many Streisand CDs available, but for me, this particular CD stands out because like many great albums, it has a momentum which starts from the first note of the first track and continues right through till the last track. It almost forces you to listen through until the end, flowing from track to track. Truly awesome.

This is a really good album with lots of really good songs. Most of them older, since the album first came out in the 80's. Elaine Pages voice is spectacular and this is a complete collection of her early, good stages.

"Ol' Blue Eyes Is Back" signaled Frank Sinatra's 1973 return from his high publicized retirement four years earlier. The result is a mixed bag, because while this is clearly Sinatra past his prime, there are still a couple of gems in "Send in the Clowns" and "There Used to Be a Ballpark." The problem is that those songs are included on enough Sinatra hits collections that if you already have those two songs there is little reason to pick up this CD. If it were a record album you could use the great cover shot of Sinatra as an object d'arte. Before he retired Sinatra was doing some interest work (e.g., the concept album "Watertown"), but producer Don Costa has come up with a collection of largely forgettable songs by new songwriters. It's sacrilege really giving the Duke any less than 5 stars I know. However, this collection was recorded - as it says on the box - between 1926 and 1949, and that's what you get, with all the sound quality issues that entails. By and large, they have done a great job with these recordings. However, you should know exactly what you are buying here. The Duke recorded many of these "Masterpieces" several times and some listeners might prefer his later recordings which went through various evolutions. Take Sophisticated Lady, recorded in 1933: are you hoping to hear the sumptuous sound of his 1966 orchestra - or the vocal dominated version he recorded in 1956? These recordings all predate the LP and the essence of each those brilliant compositions is here in its original ... Read More:
