It's as simple as this:-I have the album that this is on,but I still had to get the single,when I saw the breathtaking view of Carlingford Lough on the front cover in its Sean Hillen "Irelantis" incarnation.However,don't think for a second that I wasted my money.Quite apart from the awe inspired in my girlfriend when I told her I lived there and that she could come and see it(Result!),it's also a tremendous tune.It has the feel of a fight between the Beach Boys and Status Quo taking place with Galdiator-style cotton buds,with added the bonus of some confused people trying to work out why some barely coherent Cambrians are phoning them up to tell them about drawing rings around the world also in the mix.And it's every bit as fantastic as that ... Hmmm a strange one this, even by Budgie's own especially quirky standards. This 1976 album saw a bit of a departure from the bands usually sludgy and bluesy rock sound and they incorporated ......funk elements! Oh lord have mercy, Welsh funk! But wait, this is actually good, surprisingly so.

This album kicks off in excellent fashion with the groovy, up tempo `Anne Neggen' which is very similar to Wishbone Ash's `Jailbait' (every 70's rock band has at least one song about under age females!). It's perhaps my favourite Budgie song with some wonderful guitar riffs, far from metal and far from heavy but I suppose Budgie's inclusion into these archives is based on their early 70's and 80's work, rather than their supposed late 70's ... Secrets & Lies is stunning. Simple as that.
Taint share similarities with bands such as Clutch, Baroness, High On Fire & Neurosis but bring a uniquely British perspective into the mix. It's a seamless blend of all that's good about progressive Hardcore & classic rock: Awesome riffs, heartfelt vocals & well structured composition. It all gels together perfectly & the production is Organic but clear, giving a sound that is both powerful & natural. I can't fault anything, even the artwork is perfect.

This early EP is surprisingly good. It also contains the original version of the excellent God! Show Me Magic!, which is basically the same except for the production, but still different enough to be satisying for a collector of their songs, and good enough to be enjoyable to listen to. The last song/songs (Focus Pocus/Debiel) are possibly the best on the EP though, the first half being a fast ansd furious rock 'n' roll track with an short but excellent flute section, the second, which follows without a break, a mellow and beautiful tune with a moving melody. Although it must be said that in addition to her musical expertise, Mrs Bennett's political connections are first-rate, none the less that does not entitle her (or her record company) to present this as the Complete Welsh Melodies, as there's rather a lot missing, even in the pure harp repertoire. That being said, however, if you want a potboiler collection of the old warhorses, this set is about as competent as any you'll get.

When I first heard INTEOTW? on the album I was not a happy bunny... SFA doing soppy ballads?! Euarrrrgh!!! However, it grows in stature with every listen, and it is definately one of the best tracks on the album. When you first hear it, it appears to be a song about growing old, but when you see the accompanying video on the DVD version of the album (there is a new video for the DVD single) you realise that it has a deeper meaning. It is quite moving watching the huge mushroom clouds of the video, and listening to Gruff and co. harmonising over lines such as "when the taxi comes to take you away you start to worry...at least it's not the end of the world?"
