Ever since I first purchased Vol 5, I've endeavoured to buy every one of the Good times albums. Vols 1 - 5 are fantastic, with a great mix of music from Soul - House and Funk - Drum and Bass. The previous albums have really been well thought out and bring the carnival vibe into your living room.
However, with volume 7 I can't help but feel Norman and the team are starting to run out of tracks! They album is enjoyable and theres a couple of great tracks, but compared to previous releases, it doesn't quite match up.
Its an album you'll listen to every now and again, maybe when you're bored of hearing your favourites, but unfortunatley its not one that you'll be reaching for when you're in the mood to party!

This CD is wonderful. I am a big fan of Soweto Gospel choir, some wonder harmonies. The traditional songs are my favourite. If you ever get the chance to see them 'live' you will truly be amazed. They sound just as good, if not better than their CD's.

From Art Garfunkel introducing the band to us up to the present day, this is the best all round collection of African music. It is not trying to be too religious or too international. All the music is absorbing, tribal and african. It can be listened to in background or very loud. I would gladly have paid more for this collection.

Although not having any classical music training, nor the ability to write a critical analysis, all I can say is that from the opening notes to the closing chord I was absolutely captivated.
It's a hypnotic collection of pieces which simply draw you into following their every turn, step, phrase and passage. The melodies are haunting and indeed sinuous, sensual, emotive...you really can't avoid flowing with them.
The technical aspects mean nothing to me other than I have a deep appreciation for the work and energy of Kennedy as well his phenomenal ability to make me want hear again and again whatever he does - be it jazz, Hendrix and now this.
I agree with the others - it's a must have, but not a shelf filler. This shows up ... Read More:

You know what they say about art being born out of suffering - well, here you are!
From the southern reaches of the Sahara Desert (in Mali), from among the nomadic Tuareg tribes, a band of poets and minstrels have put down their guns and picked up electric guitars. And have poured the anguish and suffering of their people into their poetry and music. The result is Tinariwen.
A few years ago, I saw Tinariwen playing on Jules Holland's show and was dumbstruck! I'm afraid all the other guests on the show were instantly erased from my mind as these wonderful sounds and rythms swept into my ears. As soon as I possibly could, I went to my local music shop to order anything I could find by the group. And when Amassakoul arrived ... Read More:

Some people have been disappointed that this project did not realise its full hybrid potential, and perhaps not unduly so. However, we must remember that the music of Miles' electric period was already inflected with Indian musical structures and musicians, irrespective of the extent of explicitly Indian instrumentation (surely part of its appeal to me). On Miles From India I will concede that some tracks are more successful than others in their achievement of indo-jazz synergy. But for example, Spanish Key is absolutely incredible- a really distinctive interpretation with a pronounced Indian inflection, and reason alone to purchase this. As an obsessive about this era of Miles' music, this rendition really caught my attention, filling me with delight.
