First heard these songs on the film 'Life Aquatic' and couldnt wait to get the CD. These songs are so beautifully and romantically sung by Seu George. Even if like me you dont know a word of Portuguese it is stll fabulous. Great for listening to in bed to lull you to sleep.

The Pogues third album was released early 1988 after `Fairytale of New York' made them the toast of the World Christmas 1987. More consistent in arrangement than the previous two albums `Red Roses for Me' and `Rum, Sodomy and the Lash' it suffers slightly from the polished production which diminishes some of the `Ragged Glory' they were unleashing night after night in concert.

The role of traditional Irish music is on the decline on this album being limited to a medley early in the second side of the original disc. Rather than necessarily be a policy decision it was possibly more down to the standard of song Shane MacGowan was writing at this stage. A hypnotic environment of word and sound which provides a delightful excuse to investigate the work of the poets included....but I needed the scripts the first time round although the French accent and mysterious dropping of plural's' was lispingly attractive.Well worth a listen and all that the poetry demands.

This is the most thrilling, exciting sound I have heard in ages. What amazing talent and energy! I cannot stop playing it night or day, it is so uplifting.
Even when I am not playing it, the rhythms and melodies keep coming into my head and I find myself nodding,tapping my feet or drumming with my fingers in tempo. The sound quality in general is absolutely superb, however, can anyone explain the small blip of interference between track 2 and 3 ? It only lasts a few seconds but I think this couple deserve perfection in the recording of their performance. I was also a little disappointed in the quality of the DVD production.
In spite of these criticisms I heartily recommend this album and still give it five stars!

As I could not wait the UK release of this album, I bought this Buddha Bar X through Amazon.fr (18 February 2008 release). I've been a big fan of the Buddha Bar series, and at every new album release I'm half excited and half anxious because I'm afraid that someday they will disappoint me. Every previous album was a delightful surprise. I don't know how they do it, but it just never fails to come up to my expectations, they keep on producing such pleasant (often CD1) and exciting (mostly CD2) music. And yes, THEY DID IT AGAIN with the Buddha Bar X!!! This music always touches the right spot of your heart, takes your mind away to a place where you feel so peaceful. As a consequence of musical explorations I discovered that the Garifuna are a mixed race culuture originating from indigenous peoples of the Americas and of African; so kind of the usual Latin American mix without the European bit. A unique cultural identity has formed within these peoples. Nevertheless, one can detect the European cross references without any trouble in amongst the polyrhythms and drums one would expect from that cultural background. It's an album of interest, and certainly one I like. But here we have the women, and I must admit that Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective in this case shows the men ahead of the women.

Ana Hina - Natacha Atlas

Although a very singular work, "Ana Hina" calls to mind a number of unique (and very different) albums including Bim Sherman's re-recording of a number of his old songs in the acoustic reggae-meets- Bollywood "Miracle" album, Joanna Newsom's "Ys" in which the baroque ornateness of Van Dyke Parkes met Steve Albini's minimalism with wonderful results and, thirdly, the Greek singer Savina Yannatou's Primevera en Salonico disc "Sumiglia" which showcases songs from Greece, Corsica, Italy, Sicily, Galicia, Palestine, Albania, Bulgaria, Armenia, Moldavia and the Ukraine. Like Yannatou, Atlas celebrates the differences between various musical traditions while highlighting their commonality.

Tibetan Buddhist this is NOT. Anyone wishing to hear Tibetan Buddhist chants don't bother buying this. On hearing it the first thing that came to mind was a light music programme from Shanghai. As a Buddhist I found is most disappointing.
