Tibetan Buddhist this is NOT. Anyone wishing to hear Tibetan Buddhist chants don't bother buying this. On hearing it the first thing that came to mind was a light music programme from Shanghai. As a Buddhist I found is most disappointing.

So there I was browsing books at my favorite Barnes and Noble book store. While looking at all the new arrivals I heard the most beautiful music begin to play. At first I hummed along and continued to browse the books. My mood was uplifted almost immediately. When Caledonia began to play I made my way back to the music department to see what was playing. It was this CD. I purchased a copy of the CD right then and there. Now I've had the CD home for a little over two weeks and I've listened to it already countless times. It has the power to make the commute to work happier, housework less tiresome, writing more productive.

If you've heard them before I don't need to explain why. If you haven't, I can't. Orchestra Baobab is an experience one has to take on ones own. You would think that a bunch of such armature but talented musicians would not be able to go beyond the boundaries of their own town. But here comes the exception, and what an exception it is. Their music is so intoxicating that `professionalism' becomes a dirty word. If you also saw them live you would know what I mean.
The first two recordings made them world famous. Now comes the third recording of a completely new material, and with much more complex arrangement. I know little about world music and came to buy this having heard Toumani Diabaté's contributions to the Damon Albarn's co-authored Mali Music. I can see that some of the reviews here from the world music community have levelled accusations that this album is rather bland and that it has been watered-down to render it inoffensive for the wider music-buying community. Others have said that it is background music and that the musicians' playing is quite average and uninspired by their standards. From a layman's point of view, I cannot question the authenticity of the recording but can attest to the beauty of the music.
