I discovered Joni about a year ago, hearing the song Case of You in the film Practical Magic and looking it up online. I bought the album Blue and completely fell in love with its mellowness and her wonderful voice.

Having listened to Blue about 7 million times i decided to seek out more of Joni. I read the reviews on a few of her albums on Amazon and settled on Court and Spark.

I expected it to be pretty similar as it was released only a few years after Blue, and was surprised to find it different. It's not as mellow as Blue, it's more jazzy and funky, more instruments are going on, backing singers- everything. The Felice Brothers

Although these guys have adopted the hairy bearded look of the Band and occasionally sound Dylanesque they stamp their own identity firmly on this disc - a set of 15 songs without a dud to be found. Tales of the old and new West predominate as evoked in titles like Frankie's Gun, Whiskey in my Whiskey and Helen Fry. In a strange way the sound evokes not just alt-country legends like Green on Red but also the swirling organ and heavy back beat of the Wailers at their best. This is an outstanding collection which rewards repeated listening.

Steve Earle music is best described as country-rock. The skull and cross bones that form the cover of Copperhead Road album warn of what is to come, a heavy mix of potent music shot through with the reflections of an wild young man who is older than his years. Inserts show a relaxed Earle, fag in mouth, black shades and dressed in denim.

A strong start with 'Copperhead Road' on which you can apparently 'smell the whisky burnin'; 'The Devil's Right Hand' refers to a pistol and though the song has a strange lyrical resonace it isn't until 'Johnny Come Lately' (on which the Pogues play) when the album begins to rock..

The album that, in 1974, brought Bob Dylan back from the semi-wilderness he'd been in and out of since 1967. A laid-bare, heart-rending reconstruction in the recording studio of his disintegrating marriage, "Blood On The Tracks" contains some of Bod Dylan's (and anybody's) finest recorded work. It is, needless to say, completely reccommendable to anyone think of trying Dylan's music out for size, and yes there are many who know far less about his work than those of us who were brought up on this album in the seventies. These people are whom this review is aimed at. The rest of us know it's great.

Bought this recently and it takes me right back to the early 70's when it was a 'must buy' album. It's been on my 'must get the CD' list for some time and on listening to it for the first time in almost 40 years, I'm still moved and amazed by it. As others have rightly said, it's a classic album, so there is no way I'm going to individually review each track - suffice to say that each is a gem in it's own right. On S and G, it's hard to describe just how unique Art Garfunkels voice is or how poignant Paul Simon's lyrics are, just play it, sing along and let your mind go back to those heady days!

This is definitive stuff, make no mistake. Dense, dark, full of self-loathing, at times almost impenetrable, it always draws parallels in my mind to those blurry, dank portraits that Francis Bacon conjured out of the depths of his psyche, in order - to paraphrase his words on the subject - "to capture the essence of the soul as if it had left behind slime-trails on the canvas." The album cover bares enough clues as to what was going on inside Cohen's mind at the time. He looks uncharacteristically scruffy, half-starved, manic and mystical, with his name and the title spelled out in stark, bold white letters against the harsh, black backdrop. The Best Of: 1980-1990

Although the band still manage to create great songs and sounds it was during the 1980s that they arguably produced some of their best work and indeed, created some of the songs of all time which made the band the worldwide phenomenon they are today.

Songs like Pride, With or with out you, I still haven't found what I'm looking for and Where the streets have no name are now iconic and serve to represent what was a golden era for U2 and the music world in general.

Even if your not bothered about the B sides this compilation is simply brilliant and well worth owning. For me it should be in any music lovers collection.

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

I'm not one of Bob Dylan's biggest fans, though I agree with the view that he has no equal as a wordsmith. Indeed, his book 'Chronicles' suggests that he could have been one of the world's premier writers or novelists had he chosen books instead of guitars. When people elevate later albums such as 'Blood On The Tracks' to 'greatest album' status, though, I chuckle. Dylan's reputation is built on the albums he made during the 1960s, starting with 'Freewheelin''. In 1962/63, the average pop album consisted of half an hour of cover songs. From a member of the same generation, a student of folk music, came over three quarters of an hour of original material, bar two songs. Dylan did admit to nicking the odd tune, but that's not an unusual practice.
