I had the pleasure of seeing Neil Young live in Kent last weekend. It was great to see he is still on tremendous form after all these years. With a catalogue of about thirty albums it is difficult for newcomers to his work to know where to start their collection, but this compilation covers a lot of his best known music. In fact according to the man himself it was compiled according to sales of the songs, airplay and known download history which gives the track selection credibility.

Many artists have attempted to sum up the sadness and frustrations of those in impovershed communities. In doing so, many of these have aimed to offer genuine hope and encouragement at the same time. Issues such as poverty, gun crime, and oppression of working classes and ethnic minorities are not unusual song subjects. And yet, from punk to gangsta rap, I would defy you to find an artist who can sum them all up so eloquently and compassionately as Tracy Chapman.

This is the first of the so-called American recordings, and arguably the best. The songs have been carefully selected by Cash, and I believe there is certainly something here for everyone. If you love music you will soon fall in love with this album. Most artists today don't have one percent of the emotional intensity that Cash had. I highly recommend this album without reservation.

Joshua Tree was made at a time when the band weren't as wrapped up in their own importance, or maybe before we had noticed it.
It is full of the earnestness that has become their trademark. In later albums this became too forced for this cynic's liking at least.

The album is full of memorable songs, perhaps Trip through your Wires is the weakest one but all the others cry out for repeated listening.

Bono is perhaps the ultimate lead singer, making himself the centre of attention with his performances and lyrics. However a song like "Mothers of the Dissappeared" makes you believe that his heart is certainly in the right place.

My introduction to Joni Mitchell was about 5 years ago with the album hissing of summer lawns, which changed a lot of things musically for me in short I was blown away. Joni Mitchell voice on this album has got a lot deeper but it only brings out the songs more if this album doesn't move you in a way then I have to agree with other reviewers you really don't have a pulse, in short this album is simply beautiful.

Years ago, I bought 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' on the recommendation of a trusted friend, who told me it was considered an idiosyncratic masterpiece in the vein of 'Astral Weeks,' though musically miles apart. Whereas I liked the album, I was never the biggest fan of extended musical jams, which 'Cowgirl In The Sand' and 'Down By The River' sounded like to me. In short, I couldn't love it, and I already knew 'Harvest,' 'After The Goldrush' and Youngs work with Buffalo Springfield particularly well. What I was looking for was that rare nugget that makes you fall in love with music all over again. Then, recently, I was drawn in by the effusive reviews of the reissued 'John, The Wolfking Of L.A.' by John Phillips, and it is a fairly consistent and good portrait of the West Coast ... Read More:

Chic Murray was Billy Connolly's Father ... he must have been!

This was bought for someone who loved Chic Murray and told me he would not enjoy just listening to him because "you had to see him, his act was full of pulled faces and innocent comic gestures".

How wrong you can be!!! This is a very funny comic CD if you have a 'dry' sense of humour!

I remember hearing Billy Connolly saying that he admired, and was inspired by Chic Murray, now I know why!

If you like your humour dry and smut free this is great, very funny, very innocent but very suggestive without being offensive.

There's many a good tune played on an old fiddle, try it!

This is even better than the first soundtrack and i love every single song. Very pleased to see Bethany's Halo on here, that girl needs to release an album of her own soon. Other highlights are songs by Nada Surf, Jacks Mannequin and Fall Out Boy, who all have guest starred in One Tree Hill. My personal favourite would be recurring guest star Tyler Hiltons cover of 'Missing you', it is truly amazing and i am now a great fan of Tyler Hilton based purely on his efforts in this series as he isn't well known in the UK.
