This is even better than the first soundtrack and i love every single song. Very pleased to see Bethany's Halo on here, that girl needs to release an album of her own soon. Other highlights are songs by Nada Surf, Jacks Mannequin and Fall Out Boy, who all have guest starred in One Tree Hill. My personal favourite would be recurring guest star Tyler Hiltons cover of 'Missing you', it is truly amazing and i am now a great fan of Tyler Hilton based purely on his efforts in this series as he isn't well known in the UK.

Miles From India - A Celebration of the Music of Miles Davis

This double CD represents a large project with numerous musicians, in a number of combinations, and playing a number of Davis's more popular compositions from the 60's and 70's. So admittedly it is difficult to take in just in one go. Whilst rating it as "good/3 stars", Miles From India has not instantly become one of my favourite Indo-jazz fusion albums or likely to be. Why: because of a number of petty annoyances it carries with it, neither does it have the degree of integration of two distinct musical styles, and instead the joins show on a number of tracks.

Don't get me wrong, Solid Air is a decent, fine album; but John Martyn's best? It doesn't come close to One World, which is a total masterpiece and simultaneously the gifted singer-songwriter's most satisfying journey into experimentation and his most accessible too. Rock, folk, dub and ambient all combine to create a luscious, quietly funky, atmospheric and dreamy work which sounds astonishing turned up loud. Roots: The Best of Show of Hands

Driving home one day last Autumn the song 'Roots', featured on this album, was played on a radio 4 show and the hairs flew up on the back of my neck! The song is a great thumping polemic on the loss of our english identity and our stories and songs - our roots, something very close to my heart. It is not a jingoistic nationalist rant but it does question, forcibly, why we are so happy to accept plastic massed produced entertainment instead of looking toward our own rich culture. Anyway, I pre-ordered the album when I got home on the strength of that one track and it has hardly left the cd player since. The diversity and skill of the music and lyrics are extraordinary and I just couldn't recommend it enough. Brilliant musicianship, brilliant storytelling. Thanks.

Zuma

I bought this album when it came out, on vinyl. Neil Young had been only partly known to me - i tended to think "acoustic" and "folky", which were not the kind of words i was into at that age. John Peel said that "nothing before had prepared him for the magnificence of Zuma" or words to that effect. As a keen JP listener and admirer, i thought I'd give it a go. Fabulous! It was as rock-y and discordant in places as you could wish. The guitaring was a revelation. Great songs, love-it-or-hate-it voice/singing - which i did love. The acoustic numbers and gentler tracks were great songs too, and perfect to sing when you were having a drink with your mates. Dear Heather

Much more varied than Ten New Songs, Dear Heather sounds patchy at first listen. But repeated spins reveal the beauty and the cohesive themes of the album.

Lord Byron's poem, Go No More A Roaming, sets the mood, with lovely backing by Sharon Robinson. The enigmatic Because Of, with its repeated refrain "Look at me Leonard/One last time" is a beautiful blend of eros and thanatos, spiced by wry humour and embellished with the beautiful voice of Anjani Thomas.

Simplicity rules on The Letters where Sharon Robinson and LC share the vocals, sometimes solo, sometimes together. With its sparse instrumentation, Undertow has a dreamy melody and evocative imagery with Thomas taking the female vocal.

'Rust Never Sleeps' is an intriguing,odd and at times excellent album with songs which must rank among Neil Young's finest.The album was recorded on the road during the 'Comes A Time' 1978 tour and it's a half acoustic,half electric affair.The majority of the tracks were either recorded in one take or live in concert but because the audience is omitted during the mix the album isn't 'live' but yearns to be.You will need to purchase the excellent 'Live Rust' to appreciate the actual tour concerts and includes four of the nine songs here.
