I'm worried about the 2-star lad...if he can't get his head round the first four tracks - Marlene is good but the weakest of the 4 - then his taste-o-meter needs to be serviced. Cracked and Small Blue thing are sublime, simple, strong tunes perfect for Vega's sing/speak clear voice.
I normally go for songs with a bit more pep but this is quality stuff.
I do agree with some comments that it runs out of steam thereafter and consider there is a terrific album between this and the at-times over-produced Solitude Standing.
I will check out Queen and the Soldier again, thanks for the heads up.

Even though i was born twenty years after this was made, it defined an era for me, roughly from the ages of 19 to 23 (he wasnt much older when he made this), that age when you just finish with being a teenager and start trying to be less flippant, for most anyway, for me it was the time for first relationships, i was a late starter. But this album was me, mine, it is for me, still is. While others my age were listening to Tatu and Sclub and prodigy, i'd found Bob.
Tracks that stand out - Subterranean Homesick Blues. Maggie's Farm. Mr Tambourine man. It's Alright Ma. She Belongs to Me (One of my favourite songs). Gates Of Eden. Love Minus Zero.
Just.. run and get it before the bogey man gets you. And dont forget to listen ... Read More:

For some strange reason, when I first heard this album, many years ago, I didn't like it. I knew "May you never" which is not very representative of the rest of the album, but that was all I knew. A few years later I happened to hear "Over The Hill" one night and it blew me away. I went out and bought the album straight away, cursing those foolish young ears that had dismissed this timeless classic. These days hardly a week goes by without me giving this a whirl. From the title track through "I Dont Want To Know", "I'd Rather be the Devil", "Man in the Station" and the previously mentioned tracks, each ones a gem delivered in a beautifully hypnotic, lazy slur. Buy it or live to regret it.

I consider myself a music fan, and I have wide and varied tastes. One look through P.Jones reviews will bear out that unless you like his/her particular brand of music you are not considered a music fan. Total nonsense. Music, like beauty, is in the "ear" of the beholder: Shame on you for being so closed-minded.
I have several Shania Twain albums and a couple of DVDs and I'm not ashamed to say I've been to see her twice, and ALL of my encounters with her and her music have been uplifting. If you like up-beat, fun music - some with a deeper story to tell - you will enjoy this album. If you like Shania's silky, effortless voice, you will enjoy this album. And thats a promise.

The 2 FF albums are the best albums of the 21st century, so far. Catchy tunes, crisp guitar/vocals/drums, no dud tracks. Some of the lyrics aren't up to much, but you can't win them all!
Release Date June 26, 2006
I only discovered this band about a year ago and this album is without doubt my favourite of the moment (and I've been playing it for a year now!). Every song is excellent. Rock music you can sing along to!

2005 was a whacky year even by Ryan Adams standards, as he released three albums, one of which was a double, in the space of around eight months. Luckily for all concerned, they got better as they went on, and he certainly saved the best for last.
29 is a kind of sequel to Love Is Hell, but rather than having the sprawling depression of that album's production it's more reminiscent of Heartbreaker's stripped sound, only amped up even more. Most of the songs were recorded by Adams alone with a guitar or piano and then overdubbed to a very minor extent. Instrumentation is spare and production is all but absent, all wise decisions for an album like this.
Whether you believe that Adams is as tortured as this or not - as far as I'm concerned, the ... Read More:

I bought this item on the strength of a couple of favourable reviews and a fondness for the Moldy Peaches, but nothing prepared for me for how much I would love it. An album I can just put on 'repeat' and listen to over and over... Like all the gentlest and most heartfelt moments of the Moldy Peaches concentrated in one sustained burst of quality accoustic songs. The tunes are lovely, and the lyrics are the sort you take to your heart, covering things from the fear of death for our loved ones, to dealing with low self-esteem, to a stinging criticism of America's response to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Anyone with a love of quality songwriting should find something to love in this album.

This is just gorgeous - the musical equivalent of Andy Goldsworthy. A modern artist presenting a contemporary view on 'enclosure' and what it means to be English in a deceptively traditional sounding format. Perfection.
