This could be Pentangle's best album - 'Basket of Light' is the only other contender, but this one has much more material on it.
The first disc was recorded live in 1968 and the second is from the studio. The live show is great, with a mix of folk standards, originals and instrumentals showing great dexterity and skill from all involved. Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's version of Mingus' 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' is a standout instrumental tune - very relaxing and melodic. The studio set is a strong album in its own right, with highlights (for me) being the guitar duel of 'In Time', the morality tale 'Sovay' and the grooving 'I've Got A Feeling', which borrows the chord sequence from Miles Davis' 'All Blues'.

I had the pleasure of seeing Neil Young live in Kent last weekend. It was great to see he is still on tremendous form after all these years. With a catalogue of about thirty albums it is difficult for newcomers to his work to know where to start their collection, but this compilation covers a lot of his best known music. In fact according to the man himself it was compiled according to sales of the songs, airplay and known download history which gives the track selection credibility.
The collection begins with three of Neil Youngs' key songs- two epics which demonstrate the remarkable craftsmanship behind his output (Down by the River and Cowgirl in the Sand) and the shorter, harder edged 'Cinnamon Girl', an instantly catchy number. These ... Read More:

If you like Manu Chao, you'll love this. If you want to here Amadou and Mariam, try an earlier album. Manu Chao's inisistent urban rhythms take something away from this fine duo.

I could be wrong butI get the impression that Mr Cooder has been listening to a lot of Tom Waits recently and that is no bad thing. Great album both musically and lyrically, could have done with some more of his trademark slide guitar but no complaints really.

One of the most over-hyped, self important, vacuous bands to make noise pollution ever. Oh but so many classics on this album. Who cares about this vehicle for a short stock hypocritcal talentless tike like Bonio. A millionaire lecturing us about the poor in the world and the environment when he flies a hat by plane to a gig where he is and his hat wasnt. What rot. Don't fund this silliness by buying into the U2 trap. They might have struck gold with this album but they have been rubbisher since and just mimic the same sound and repackage it as a new album, then release a new best of in between. Stupid glasses and Bonios nose looks like shaved tackle.

This has to be one of my absolute favourite albums of recent months. It's Will Holland at his absolute best. Even if you're not familiar with this man's work, I defy you not to like this!!

I'm Sorry , call me closed minded , but i simply can not be friends with anyone who thinks this album merely OK. If you still don't like it after 10 listens , subscribe to MTV and buy the whole back catalogue of Now Thats What I Call Music albums . I know it's snobbery , but you really are not a Dylan fan if you don't like this. If you are a football fan , it's a bit like a guy in the pub claiming Maradona was a bit too small to be considered as good as Sir Bobby Charlton. ..Buy it..if you don't like it , go live in Germany. They have made David Hasselhoff No1 there.

Kate Rusby is a treat and possibly the most unsung performer in the UK. I own hundreds of CDs and very few of them continue to move me like "The Girl Who Couldn't Fly". From the teasing, light-hearted rhyme of `Mary Blaize' to the haunting simplicity of `Fare Thee Well', this album is a treat for the ears and a journey for the emotions. 'No Names' is the ultimate highlight for me, specifically because of Roddy Woomble's fantastic contribution. The vast space between Kate and Roddy's tones serves only to add to the bittersweet parting message that the song contains. This is a wonderful album that deserves much wider critical aclaim than it has received so far.

The latest studio-based offering from Travis (who seeing the fortunes of rivals Take That improve also decided to jump on the come-back band wagon)offers a few happy go lucky songs that are perfectly suitable to nodding your head or tapping your feet to, but after a while you do grow tired of it and none of the songs stand out. They should have called this 'The Album With No Name' as no one will remember it in 5 years time!
